 | RA Review Joy Orbison has had a lot of "big tunes" over his short history, and most of them have had an identifiable vocal at their centre. "Ellipsis" is no different. This one's "we just used to like...do our own thing" sample comes from an interview with drum & bass duo Source Direct, and it's an apt descri..

| #13 / Tue, 03 Jul 12 12:22 The original is so, so huge. Gotta love that retro feel, plus those hats playing off the bass line for some serious momentum. Looking forward to buying this one.

This track is very strong but overhyped IMO, not a patch on Hyph Mngo

+1 Prefer his Wasteland remix... I'd still buy the record though.

| #17 / Tue, 03 Jul 12 14:18 Original is cool. I don't think there's a single producer whose music can really live up to the ridiculous level of hype that Joy O generates with every new track, but he does a pretty good job of coming close on a consistent enough basis. As for the remix, it's amazing (that rhythm...) until the completely out of place, and frankly awful sounding in context, piano comes in.

Agreed! The original is fine the way it is. Shed can do much better than that...

| #21 / Tue, 03 Jul 12 15:58 I seem to be the only one that rates the Head High remix on this one.
I guess its problem is that it's so much more rambunctious than the original, which is why I think it's not being seen in the most favourable light.

| #22 / Tue, 03 Jul 12 16:02 Well it's not bad maybe I will need to hear it more but the original hits me more. Furthermore I think Shed has done much better than this remix...

 |
| #23 / Tue, 03 Jul 12 17:24 I think Shed got the remix more or less spot on.
The original had over 100,000 views on youtube before it was even released so i think he had to take it in the direction he did, to make it as different from the original as possible, if u get me

A good track simply does not need to have a remix.

In fairness his exploits as Droner can hardly be compared to his output as a producer since 2009, in the context of this review "short history" seems fair

In fairness his exploits as Droner can hardly be compared to his output as a producer since 2009, in the context of this review "short history" seems fair 2009 is ancient history when it comes to this 'UK bass' malarky! Hyph Mngo was basically one of the formative moments in the earliest days when everyone was riffing on themes from dubstep (what would be called 'post-' eventually, I suppose). Even Boddika, now considered a scene stalwart, wasn't producing under that alias until 2010. Anyway, just a strange choice of words. Great review for a very solid release. Going to be a main fixture on dancefloors...

A good track simply does not need to have a remix. In that case there's an awful lot of needlessly brilliant music out there.

The Head High remix is clearly brilliant and likely to enjoy far greater longevity than the poppy but pleasing original. To my ears it has 'classic' written all over it, 'out of place' piano and all.

It was more pricey than most releases.
It's a good release, just nothing that blew me away.
