Kahn - Angeles cover
RA Review
From what we've seen so far, Bristol's Kahn can do two things: eyes-down DMZ-style dubstep and garage that's poppy as all hell. Thankfully, he does both of them exceedingly well. "Angeles," released on Soul Motive's new white label series (if you can pick out the vocal sample, you'll understand why)..

Make that three things - he can also make stripped back grime bangers like Percy!

This is another great release from Kahn though, one of the most exciting producers out there at the moment.

Sorry, am I missing something?

I loved his Punch Drunk debut, but what makes that (and most of this 'future garage' stuff) interesting is the subversion of the original genre's tropes. Here Kahn merely apes the genre's golden period, a well produced but ultimately slavish facsimile of the real stuff with vocals as divorced from meaning as they are appreciable context. With its admirably tough percussion the remix gets closer but regrettably still retains much of the original's irony-free, cloying nostalgia.

Very disappointing.

I dunno, his Death Of An Old Boy was atmospheric post-dubstep, and Sweet Like Syrup was bleepy. I think Kahn's best trait is that he does alot of things!
