Not only does it not make the music any better, it makes that part of the mix really drag. I presumed it was simply a hipster shibboleth and let it go, sometimes using Audacity to remove the offending parts.
The prospect of nearly an hour of such crap didn't really appeal. However, Shlohmo's XLR8R mix is one of my favourites ever (http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2009/12/shlohmo) - all fizzy Beats and joyful bleeps - so I decided to give it a go.
The first 10 minutes are pretty painful, but honestly, it gets better, and becomes really quite beautiful around 17 minutes or so. I can't say I love the last 10 minutes either. I genuinely believe that I'll listen to this mix again, some of it's really pretty good.
Shlohmo has proven that the technique isn't entirely musically bankrupt, maybe now he'll go back to the genuinely awesome music at the right speed.
It was brave of him to put this up on RA - perhaps he's not aware of how conservative most people are round here. If you want something alternative to deep house and techno, and are in the mood to chill, then skip to 17:00 and zone out. It's really not as bad as people would have you believe.
