The Feed
Pitchfork catch up with the Warp artist about his new album, his creative process and the "crazier beats" that never make it off his hard drive.

"PF: Where do those crazier beats end up?
FL: On my hard drive. I sneak some of it into the show, too.
PF: Do you think about dropping those beats on EPs in between albums?
FL: I actually thought of releasing the Dirty South thing in a couple of weeks on a .zip.
PF : What's the hesitation?
FL: I feel like letting the album do its thing. I'll see. There's also an ambient album that I wanted to put out like that- just throw some .zips out and, if they like 'em, they like 'em."

Please let this happen.

Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes cover
RA Review
What happens when you get too far ahead? The answer to that question when you're talking about Flying Lotus is that you only get more popular. Cosmogramma , the complex third album from the Los Angeles producer, was his greatest critical and commerical success. It was a right time, right place sc..

Don't get me wrong, I really like this album, but I think it's been overhyped by various music critics/review sites. Or maybe it just hasn't "hit me" like so many other albums have this year (Recondite's On Acid, DeepChord's Silent World, Belbury Poly's The Belbury Tales, Christian Loeffler's A Forest, and others). I'm sure I'll "get it" eventually.

It was very very intensive when I heard it for the first time. I like Flying Lotus. No, I LOVE Flying Lotus.
And the biggest mistake was to compare his previous albums with this new one.
Its awesome, really. However, when you compare Cosmogramma or Los Angeles with this, you will hear the big difference.
4/5 is fine and I agree. 5/5 is better and I wish it is 5/5 album.

This is good but not FlyLo good. 4 seems about fair by RA standards.

Also, unlike with his previous LPs, I honestly don't think there's anything to 'get' or uncover here. This is just really pretty music executed exceptionally well by an immensely talented artist capable of so much more.

You said it much better than I did... I'm in complete agreement. It sounds very, very pretty, but it just doesn't hit me on an emotional level, and that, in the end, is what truly great music should do.

I wasn't really feeling this. I enjoyed his previous 2 albums a lot . His last ep was amazing as well.

This is like a 3-3.5stars for me on first listen. It might grow though.

I just couldn't get properly into Cosmogramma, after multiple attempts, even though everyone keeps raving on about it.

I'm liking this on my first listen though.

I've given this a proper listen now. There are some stand-out moments on this album, but that's all they are. Without meaning to sound, erm, lame there aren't any songs on here. Tonnes of ideas, some beautiful moments but it's really a selection of beats with nice interludes.

It's a modern masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. I've actually been revisiting the album the last couple of weeks and my opinion of it has only improved. It can be extremely chaotic and messy on the surface and that can take some effort getting used to, but once it clicks (which took me a while), the whole thing is close to perfect and almost endlessly rewarding. Of course there's a chance that it's just not your thing and that's perfectly understandable.

I will say that if you liked Los Angeles, then you should definitely give Cosmogramma a few more chances.

Yeah, I loved L.A.

Will be revisiting it again, for sure.
