Little Birds feat. Kelsey Warren - The Struggle Of Distance EP (FILTER067)
Release date: August 6th, 2012
Genres: Leftfield, Trip-Hop, Bass, Post-Dubstep
For fans of: Nine Inch Nails, Mount Kimbie, Pillow Theory
ABOUT THE RELEASE
The Struggle Of Distance marks the return of Little Birds to Filter after a break of four years. His work with the Red Riding Quartet shows its influence here, and this release is quite different from the breaks and bass explorations one might expect. But The Struggle Of Distance is a gorgeous song in its own way.
The slightly indifferent vocal of Kelsey Warren (from Pillow Theory) is laid over a simple slow, but menacing beat while the atmosphere is built by a synth string section which accents the dark lyrics. The appropriately titled RE-201 mix is a rework in a dub(bed-out) manner, making use of reverb and filters to add some more mystery to the theme. And just when you thought things could not have gone any more sinister, Tripnotic's mix proves you wrong. Filter's head-honcho goes for a post-dubstep approach, creating a dissonant masterpiece which allows the song to reach its darkest potential.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Little Birds aka Adrian Lendon comes from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom and is one of the most inventive producers aiming towards the open-minded audience. It’s hard not to be impressed by the original sound and the ability to work within many familiar genres, yet still maintaining a unique recognizable approach. He surprised the public with remixes of a few Nine Inch Nails tunes and that drew the attention of several labels asking to release his material.
Little Birds’ music is a brave mixture of drum’n’bass, breakbeat, electro and all points in between and outside those genres. He creates dark cinematic atmospheres to move the soul.
