Monoloc - Drift cover
RA Review
on CLR
Frankfurt's Monoloc has clearly spent the last ten years listening to all the right records. Drift pulls in influences running from Anthony Rother's punkish electro to Dettmann's greyscale grind, its tracks shrouded in a thick fug of dubby, Pole-ish crackle. When Monoloc reaches further back for i..

Monoloc should have received at least a 4/5. Jeesh! Heard this and it bangs like real TECHNO!

Well i figured that the CLRX backlash may come at somepoint.

I love CLR (and electric deluxe), but I have to admit that their foray into Depeche mode/ Gary Numan territory seems stray into the realm of 'navel gazing'.

Having given the album a quick listen, I kind of agree with the review, although it pains me to say it. The last single by mololoc - HH, and his remix for empty set were fucking awesome. This is not quite in that category, although my listening was probably coloured by this review.

as always! Look at the reviews of boring Hot creations tunes or Adam Port's releases, its seems they loves simply music

Next @ Pitch
Some of my thoughts on this: dubmonitor.com/?p=474
tl;dr: Not perfect, but definitely worth giving it a shot. Don't let a bad review deter you from looking it up.

I didn't really enjoy any of the tracks with vocals, but I thought the rest of the album was excellent listening...

Come on, the review is way harsh. You can't deny the quality of the bass heavy sound design on alot of the tracks. This is serious stuff. I give it 4/5

That's some serious Hatorade here. I can think of dozens of other releases much more deserving of a 2.5/5. Thanks for the entertainment as always RA hahah!

guys if you're after something refreshingly deep and dark then this is definitely something worth checking out. I fear this 'review' is the product of someone who's obviously spent a little too much time at pontificating school and not enough time having a drink, chilling out and just 'feeling it'

no hate, but the review is on point, really. this is pop music, no matter how sonically 'heavy' it is

2.5 is well deserved...

This is a killer, heavy album. Call it what you want - techno, pop (even though it's really not 'pop'), it's awesome music. It sounds good. Listen to it.

While I understand what people are saying about this album, I would restrict the 'pop' label to only a couple tracks. For instance, 'its a shame' is, well, a shame of a track, and is scarred by the adult alternative sounding lyrics. However, there is some really amazing production on this album (check out the tracks without vocals), and the 2.5 rating is not representative of the overall quality. i would give it at least a 3.5/5. Take out the vocal tracks, and make an ep out of the remaining ones and I would give it a 4.5/5.

Replace "It's Mine" with the instrumental version from the It's Mine EP and "It's a Shame" with "Shame" from the First Drift EP. Problem solved.

i think all music reviews are subjective and open to opinion. i think RA makes some valid points but it all comes down to whether it does if for you or not. There are one or two beasts on this album and the neighbours will be getting to hear them shortly courtesy of my mission 753's!
Monoloc is monoloc and i dont think he needs to be anyone else or follow the trends suggested by RA - I love it's mine btw, its a banger!

I see Monoloc as drifting between dark industrial techno and dub techno / tech-house. Perhaps that's why it is titled as such. Nowhere near pop just because it has vocals in. I think anything less than a 3.5 is extremely harsh indeed.
