I start ;)

TASCAM DR-100MKII

tascam.com/product/dr-100mkii/

Well, I just got it and slowly getting into it. Good quality but the recording level is pretty low when using the limiter. I previously had an M-AUDIO Microtrack II. Was good and the limiter rather generous. Did last 5 years... Then it started to shut down without any reason... Not nice after you are recording a two hours set...

And you?

Zoom H4n here. Small and portable, easy to use, able to record at 24 bits (so you don't need to set up your level near clipping point), not terribly expensive. What's not to like?

Thanks. Interesting what you say about 24 bits...

I found this on the net www.tweakheadz.com/16_vs_24_bit_audio.htm

More news on the TASCAM.

I tried all test for the recording and the result is suprinsingly not satisfactory. I say suprisingly as compared to the M-AUDIO recorder I thought that the result should have been better... I say should as TASCAM is worldwide recognized and not cheap.

But no... The recording remains low - the amplitude of the sound is low... lacks of energy and colour...

Looking at the result of the wave form in AUDACITY - compared to the M-AUDIO made me send back the recorder for refund.

I guess the next step is the Zoom then ;)
