There are times in this album where the balance between melody, sonic tricks, structure, samples and all is spot on. Other times it sounds just like a very well crafted drum n bass album. I think the 3 out of five is well deseved, though I would have been just half a point more generous for tracks like 'Machines' or 'Centrifuge', tracks that are elegant and banging in equal measures.

BTW, drum n bass producers doing house tunes is a very old thing, and not only house tunes, but these specific moody house tunes. Look at previous works from Photek or Nookie, for example.
