I went from 5 to 8 a couple years ago, it was amazing... Psyched for this one, the automation stuff is exactly one of the features I was hoping for!

| #20 / Sun, 28 Oct 12 01:32 $300 upgrade for what amount to bug fixes, one new effect, some cool but limited-use effects upgrades, and max4live....and a bunch of sounds/samples/presets that I never use.
Also, curious to know if 8 Suite owners lose FX/features that were available in 8 suite, if they upgrade to 9 Standard (which according to the site, can be done). Surely not?
Shame.

| #22 / Mon, 29 Oct 12 17:52 seems like a lot of money for a controller... and how about multiple windows for WAV forms, for those os us that like to DJ with Ableton, and maybe even some colour coded warp markers?

I guess you could build a time machine. (just kidding) I couldn't resist- we all have to wait, there's no alternative. The controller price is steep but the wait & simple software-only upgrade price is OK.

| #24 / Tue, 30 Oct 12 08:29 (Edited: 30 Oct 12 08:36) The Akai build concerns are valid but I believe that Ableton would insist on durability and quality components in the Push. They have an interest in quality controllers not just gimmicks.

| #27 / Wed, 31 Oct 12 00:33 One thing I wish Ableton could do like StudioVision did (there, I just aged myself) was random or curved envelopes. You'd just spray one in and let the fun happen. Instead you have to draw them now or make a triangle wave at best.
In other news: PUSH? SHIT YEAH!

| #35 / Sat, 23 Feb 13 17:09 Sound on Sound (SOS) magazine has published a pretty good review of Live 9 & Push for their March 2013...just in time for the release date which is currently given as 5 March but as of today, you really can't do much pre-ordering if you are an existing Suite 8 user/owner.

| #42 / Mon, 11 Mar 13 01:17 Pretty sure Bitwig is gonna kill Ableton. Not to be a downer, but the beta shots I've seen take everything that is better (than Ableton) about Logic, streamlined it, and incorporated it into a fully modular Live-a-like platform. Dual monitor support for splitting session and arrangement, sand-boxing for plug-in crashes (in my experience the majority of Ableton crash causes), and a third-party-developable code from 1.0 mean that it won't ever (hopefully) have the legacy-code issues that Ableton has.. I look forward to the next 10 years of that, and held off on Live 9 in anticipation. Now if they'd just release the feckin' thing

| #45 / Wed, 13 Mar 13 01:05 Been using live since 2002, this is by far the best update. It generates a more cohesive, detailed sound to me; tighter. The glue is stellar, like an SSL with side-chaining. Excited to see more from Bitwig, 'killing' Ableton however, I'm not convinced yet. From a marketing standpoint, it's going to be an uphill battle. Bitwig will have to be stellar in every aspect for people to leave a program they know well, purchase a new one and learn it's personality/capabilities. However I am open and excited for new ideas that offer different perspectives on music creation. Does it really assist me in reaching goals faster or spark creativity better than Ableton? How does it sound? Native plugin quality? Is it more fun? etc. I'm agreeing, looking forward to new ideas and evolution, noones killing Ableton yet though, however time will tell.

| #46 / Thu, 14 Mar 13 23:24 This version of Live is a no hesitation buy if you're on a previous version! It comes in 32bit & 64bit versions and the Suite version upgrade now comes with some more amazing downloadable Live packs that give real-world presets in customizable Live instruments that won't challenge the CPU or your budget like third party. Concerning the Bitwig chatter OK, we get it but don't get carried away with needles speculation. Every program has it's dignity but Live 9 is nothing short of amazing if you've learned you way around through the previous versions or are just beginning in this new way of using what Ableton's made available.

| #48 / Wed, 27 Mar 13 18:01 The session automation is great news. I use random triggering of clips, but until now was only able to work within a single group of clips. Not very good for a song with more than one section. This new automation means I can have as much randomness as I want, but keep it within the framework of a song. So glad they've done this.

| #49 / Mon, 01 Apr 13 06:40 I have been using it for about 3 weeks now and finished 2 tracks already. I have to admit the Glue Compressor gives me better results on my master channel than the UAD or Waves versions!

| #50 / Sat, 13 Apr 13 19:39 I was on the Beta for it which has now expired, I think on balance I'm hesitant about whether its worth the upgrade price for now over 8, I might do it in due course but mainly just for the better samples and a few small but important details (Clip automation being one)
