Various - American Noise cover
RA Review
Over a few excellent releases in 2011 and an outright barrage in 2012, Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. label has led a silent revolution in house music towards the rough and the DIY. The musty, damaged grooves served up in rapid-fire limited-edition style by the Brooklyn imprint have quickly become en vogue..

Where the fuck do you buy it

This review mentioned a track 'Untitled' by Svengalisghost, but I don't see it in the track list...

Woah, did Black Dice/Bjorn Copeland do the artwork? Not saying this sounds bad, but for someone who listens to a lot of actual American noise music, it's a really weird title/packaging choice for a house compilation. Of course I'm equally mystified by some of the noise people who are basically making house now.... it's all perspective I guess.

Yeah, that's why I edited and added "it's all perspective." There are plenty of house clubs where this would confuse the shit out of people.

Where I'm coming from is I got into noise because I was bored with IDM. So this year, when it seemed like there were a ton of hyped up releases where experimental producers started working with beats, and almost all of them in the "kind of house" style, my reaction has constantly been that sounds cool, but why that rhythm in particular?

But anyway, I was only comparing this to that trend because of the title/artwork. If anyone takes anyone from this post please just take my sense of weirdness at genres in general.

It's cool bro. I wasn't trying to get into an argument about genre. You're right about the cover though, it looks like a hardcore album. For me, when I hear the term "noise" thrown around I automatically think of Prurient. That was my first exposure to the genre.

Yeah no prob, didn't think you were, just posting random genre thoughts because this got me curious about the label's influences... I feel like a lot of people have their one big focus and what they listen to outside of that can get really random.

I cannot understand this position - its in digital form anyway, if people want it they'll go and find it... Why not make some money before you start losing out due to piracy?
