Ian Pooley - What I Do cover
RA Review
There is a quiet defiance to Ian Pooley's first album since 2008. Arriving on his own label and called, flatly, What I Do , it smacks of a producer who feels he has nothing left to prove. This is Ian Pooley. This is what he does. Take it or leave it. It's ironic, then, that the veteran, a musician..

Definetly checking this out. Meridian is still one of the best house albums ever. Listening to it regular.

This is a massive album. The rating is a joke. Amateur

Got a lot of time for Mr Pooley, I can't see a 2.5 putting me off purchasing this.

There is, however, a fine line, which Pooley crosses and recrosses, between skilfully-composed house music and the kind of bloodless aural wallpaper you find on Hed Kandi compilations - Ooof! Ouch!!!

Very exciting! Always been a huge fan of Ian's work; superb DJ as well. Maybe we'll get a North American tour out of this!?

'There is, however, a fine line, which Pooley crosses and recrosses, between skilfully-composed house music and the kind of bloodless aural wallpaper you find on Hed Kandi compilations' Agreed. Argueably, this is a trap that many artists, who are settled in their craft, become; skating between their true underlying house music sensibilities and pandering 'feathery-light, pop-tinged' lift music. I must say that Compurhythem is excellent.

Bit harsh, I really enjoyed this album, 5 or 6 real stand out tracks on there

well, lets all remember that reviews are simply someones opinion,

so, with that in mind, here's my opinion of said review...
this album is about as far from hot creations/wolf and lamb as its possible to get....

really kind of insulting considering Pooley's skills/heritage...

as for the hed kandi comparison --> ?!?!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!??!!?

yeah, im sure he was pure hed kandi when he played Trouw last month alongside levon vincent or released on Dixons innervisions a couple months back....

these signings and gigs dont happen by accident you know...

it was an album track people... jeez.... not EVERY track was supposed to be a tear out- peak time monster
kind of the point in doing an album, non...?

as i said - all opinions thought- each to their own etc etc

2.5 / 5 !?!?

Listen again, maybe you'll get it next time ...

Really nice album with quite a few highlights to pick from!

I.P. knows what is what

2.5??? What? Reviews are starting to lose credibity...I would have a re-listen. Definitely better than a 2.5.

there is little here to confound the casual listener. For the most part, you get precisely the polished, coolly considered, somewhat sterile house music one would expect from a producer who is passionate about his craft but who, for several years, released music through a major label

pretty much what I thought when seeing him dj a couple of months ago.

Ian Pooley headlines our upcoming showcase at Cable London on Saturday, March 16th alongside the likes of Homework, A1 Bassline, Josh Butler and Alex Blaxx.

Eton Messy take over proceedings in Room2 with the much talked about Bristol based Apple Bottom, the Transmission Collective, comprising of Anjunadeep's Kahwe, Maru and Wolf Cub.
Joining them are TCTS, Sly One and Eton Messy residents.

Agree with this, what a terrible review. Wonder under what circumstances you listened to it, reviewer ?

2.5 really?
typical.. this brings me back to the fact that there is NO statues of Critics!
completely critical, negative, & pointless hater review.

You guys really need to stop with the 'oh well hes been releasin on a major label the last couple years so......'.

I feel like you alreadly made up your mind before you even listened to the album. I have yet to listen to the album so i cant judge the music, but when I do, it will be judging just that- the music.

When you criticise people for the label they choose to release on, it just makes you sound like music snobs. Its not whether or not you are signed to a major label, its how you conduct yourself on any label. If you compromise, label big or small, thats where the fault comes in.

If you have been producing house since the 90's (and this goes for a lot of those guys) , as far as resident advisor is concerned, you suck.
