I 've been waiting for that since ages..... You can't even imagine and I was just expecting a "Clubbin in" feature (There's Belgrade, Helsinki, Vilnius, why not Paris ?)
That's really nice to see Paris in the real scene features with Bristol, Detroit and Berlin.

Thank you RA.

I hate to be the one bitching about how "this should have been this way, not this way", but clearly, you can't sum up the Parisian scene to Concrete and Dement3d.
Sure, they are really dynamic, and help the whole scene move forward, but here it seems like there is nothing else.

Love Dement3d, love their effort. Especially the scene where they listen to demos all together in a room. That's actually so heartwarming to see as it's quite rare these days to just listen to music together.
Though I did kinda miss DJ Deep in it, would have been interesting to see his take on the reemergence of clubbing in Paris. And Marcelus of course :)

Cool, its taken long enough to get another one of these out

This is not an exhaustive representation of the Scene. It misses Sntwn for instance who have been doing lots to the scene and some DJs of course.

Nice one but I agree with Crude, a lot of new actors are missing, Cracki, ZeroZero, Washin Mashin, Mont C, Debroui-art, Getthecurse, Katapult, Absent, and bigger ones like We Love Art, Furie/Flash Cocotte..., + the Synchrophone and Smallville record shops etc etc...also it is not entirely true to say clubs are dead here, le Petit Bain, Djoon, Batofar, Rex, Rouge Pigalle, la Machine with SNTWN, le Scop, la Java and many others are quite active actually.
Plus it would have been interesting to talk to some old-schoolers who are still active like DJ Deep, Gilb'R, Romain BNO, Chloe/Killthedj, Nick V etc to get their vision of the evolution of the scene in the past 20 years...
(and of course the 'post French touch scene' ie Busy P/Ed Banger, Surkin, Jean Nipon, Gesaffelstein, Cassius etc is still quite big here, but i guess this is less of a RA thing...)

Great film! Thanks RA.

One aspect of the film which I found interesting and which maybe the producers should have dwelled on a bit longer is : why are people in Paris always complaining and bitching about everything?

It might seem like a cliché to say that Parisians love complaining, but I don't think you can underestimate the effect it has on the clubbing scene. It's devastating.

I've been to the parties which the documentary talks about, Concrete and Die Nacht. Sure, the venues are great, it's really well organized, and the line-ups are astounding. But these parties and Paris in general are missing the key ingredient: a good atmosphere. People are really tense there, because they can't manage the pills and booze. You get pushed around ALL THE TIME. Bouncers are really stressed, because the minute you don't watch parisian party-goers it turns into a fucking mess. It's really interesting the the creator of Concrete says his first party was a success because it was "total war". You would never hear from ravers and partiers anywhere else that the party was good because it was "war", "chaos" or "everything fucked up".

You just dont find the kind of people and atmosphere you would in Berlin, for example. People are a lot more rude, they don't give two shit about the idea of partying "together", they want to have the most fun they can for themselves, whatever it takes.

I don't know why it is like that, but whatever the venue, whatever the party, I personnally find that it is always a bit annoying to be partying with the Paris crowd. 5% of people making the party less fun for 95%. My opinion!

Disagree. Went to concrete yesterday with old-timers and we were precisely pointing all through how much the vibe and pple were sweet and mellow (eventhough it was super packed)

I think you're being a little litteral here. This is a metaphor meaning it was crazy and super busy, nothing violent though. This is urban slang, i assume anyone can get that.

Basically there are
Techno Import (for Techno and old stuff)
Syncrophone (for House)

Both are situated on rue des taillandiers.

Subway : Voltaire or Bastille

Synchrophone is the best at the moment, DDD is opening soon near Republique, Smallville is also re-opening soon in a new place heard, then Betino's and even Techno Import are worth visiting.
Then for second-hand Democracy (ex-Boulinier), Groove Store and Paralleles are good.

love the real scenes series! I've never went clubbing in Paris, that boat party I'm definitely going to keep in mind when I eventually go.

I think Stockholm have the same problems as Paris. There's no sense of freedom and a very small scene.

there are some good parties, some good people and some great record stores, but the city lacks soul.

Très bon travail de fond. Really good work.

Paris has the potential to be a huge success. Ive played there a few times and the partys are intimate. The party people are there but its the smaller clubs that have the best crowds. I think compared to the UK its still in a phase of growth in clubbing. There are many interesting artists emerging from Paris/France and certainly the most interesting music in terms of originality than most other European countries..

More events, lower prices, and a greater atmosphere will undoubtedly be the outcome. Though other actors of the scene aren't reprensented in this great documentary, I insist : proliferation of these events, and growth of the number of these dedicated labels/collectives/venues, will bring back paris on the map. They're the ones making it happen, but we need more of them in order to sort out Paris' clubbing issues problem.

A lot of very true things being said by Julien here. That being said, I fear this documentary (which of course cannot talk about every actor of the scene) lacks a bit of explaination about the bitterness of the scene in general. We (and many club kids in general) started fleeing the clubs because they were way too expensive. And so is everything here. If you're single and making almost decent money you can manage your way into having great times every weekend. There is unfortunately a lack of night public transportation, and fiding your way from anywhere in Paris to Montreuil or Asnières or any close suburb place that has wharehouses can be a real pain in the arse. That makes the party very different than what you can find in London or Berlin for example, where you can just wander around with no plan, just going out for a beer and a couple of hours later end up in a warehouse party and stay there as long as you want. There aren't a lot of decent and affordable pre-party places here, and the best ones (Zero Zero for instance) are being shut down all the time. So basically, if you want to go to these warehouses, you'll need to plan it, which is not always my vision of going out. And if once you're there, you start feeling tired, too drunk, don't like the music, or whatever, at 4am, you'll probably have to wait until 6 to get a subway to bed or to an after party somewhere, which can be annoying sometimes. Unless of course, if you don't mind spending 30 euros on a cab, which a lot of people will avoid, and buy half a gram instead to keep on in a not-so-good mood.
The relief in my opinion will come when the Greater Paris projects start to appear, making these places easier of access, and that way breaking the "iron curtain" the periph' is to a lot of people. I come from the suburbs, I have worked on a party at Sira, and I really believe that Paris has a lot to offer, that the pretentious and cliquey mentallity can be interpreted positively somehow in Paris. As it was said here, we can't pretend to be London or Berlin, and the ones who tried made utter crap.
Anyway, let's hope Paris gets back on track. It sure will.

That was BEAUTIFUL!! Romantic dreamer is a perfect word and though the starting minutes took me on surprise knowing there was no scene in Paris? One of the world capital I guess.

Big Ups towards the change in scene. Hopefully the city I live in change and people get more mature about the underground scene and start listening to electronic music then askin for pitbull. hahahha Shame!

Love these Real Scene documentaries :)

True talking minimob.

Too much people come to Concrete just to take pillz but don't understand the sound. . This is opening the gates of something new but most people just go in to be the seen as "cool people".
