| #103 / Tue, 04 Dec 12 15:10 Posted by tarahill essential faq concerning the annual ra poll:
Q: where's my homie x / trending/mainstream producer y / veteran dj from the olden days z? why isn't he featured on the list? A: because he didn't get enough votes. this might be due to his low profile, the fact he doesn't dj at all (as in: never) or the rising suspicion he has passed his prime (and you’re being a tad nostalgic).
Q: (groundbreaking / skilled insider) dj x ranking below (wellknown/well-loved if slightly less adventurous) dj y? are you kidding? A: underground icon does not a chartstormer make. mainstream consensus rarely matches/rewards trailblazers.
Q: position 50-100 are far more interesting than your top ten/top 50 djs – why did you mess up the ranking? A: nobody messed up the ranking. the poll is a popular vote reflecting a consensus among a worldwide audience. but seeing as (compared to other polls & audiences) a lot of ra-members are active members of the scene there is reason to believe cutting edge djs might be recognized by their peers and therefore enter the top 100 even though they aren’t household names yet. for further details see above.
Q: why on earth did dislikable / airheaded / sell-out dj x make the list while diamond geezer dj y did not? A: though popular vote might be influenced/determined by sympathy most of the people voting won't personally know their favorite djs or maybe even never have met them in the first place. their vote might be based upon (big room / festival) performances or even streamed mixes and – to a lesser degree – the portrayed image of said act through channels such as ra. also they might like/fancy different characters or judge a personality by different standards.
Q: why does the top ten seem less meaningful/more hyped up every year? A: this might be due to the fact that electronic music's popularity is ever-increasing and at the moment still spreading around the globe which in turn means a lot of people voting might be new to the scene and/or lacking profound insight into the techno / house tradition – or you in turn might be growing up and attaining more and more hindsight / discerning judgment.
Q: if this poll does not reflect actual performance or achievements but merely presents a watered-down consensus, why do you keep doing it every year? A: because of all the response (i.e. debate & traffic) it creates. vice versa: why do you carry on reading and assessing it?
Bravo!

Scuba knocked my socks off at warehouse project earlier this year I was also there for that and Scuba smashed it. I'm sure if someone of Scuba's quality didn't actually 'DJ' it would be outed by now. Scrolling through the 80+ comments on here I've not come across one nice thing to say yet. Music is music, it's free, like what you like, and if other people like other stuff then get on with it, and get on with your life. You're all so busy trying not to listen what everybody else is listening that you just might miss something/someone amazing. Ignore the hype, listen to what moves you. And most importantly, stop fucking whinging! Amen to that Brother!

| #113 / Tue, 04 Dec 12 15:22 This is just a poll/list afterall, there are literally 100 more djs/producers that I would equally love to see pop up on here in no particular order. This list does not necessarily mean one DJ is better than another. I love and respect most the artists that made it on here. Also just as deserving Guy Gerber, Nico Jaar, Adam Port, Gaiser, etc... I love RA, but like most polls- this poll is not to be taken serious.

| #120 / Tue, 04 Dec 12 15:38 This list is not about DJ'ing skills anymore (if it ever was).
As i always say after listening lots of the guys on this list, being a good producer does not make you a good dj...
Taking a look at this list makes me wonder so much about lots of things, specially about how media can get you in the hype (nothing new)..... if Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber starts dj'ing next year, they'll be top 5 for sure... what a rubbish is that talent's not important anymore...
I insist, BEING A PRODUCER DOES NOT MAKE YOU A DJ (and this goes for half the list, in whatever position they're charted).
I cannot complain for i didn't vote, who votes anyway? Oh yes, those who buy what media says... So wrong...

| #123 / Tue, 04 Dec 12 15:55 Let's not forget how to win a Dj poll. Pretend to be "real", pretend not to ask for votes, then heard the sheep in. Let's take DJs back to when Djing was Djing. I'm sure this guy will be reading these comments. You and your "PR Agent" should be embarrassed the only reason you've made it thus far is because of your hair & youtube.

Glad to see DVS1 move up so many spots. Dixon and Maceo Plex doing well is great. Both guys have great productions and sets.

Enough people disagree with you to give him the number one spot. I know I rate him as one of my favorite DJ's. What makes your opinion more relevant than mine? You need to get laid or something buddy. That misdirected aggression is a little embarrassing.

Scuba knocked my socks off at warehouse project earlier this year ridiculously agree to this he definitely dj's and is damn good at it. rocked cdj's, saw it with my own flippin eyes...played a few encore tunes spontaneously with breaks in between, so if that was pre recorded the guy is better then Aoki at it. a big yea right to whoever claims he plays a prepared cd. this poll is reflected backwards of what is tasteful and what is popular. w a few exceptions, 50 - 100 could be the top 50 and sprinkle in one or two of this lists 1-50 and we have a decent snap shot of the underground...just opinion, of course. saw Seth for the first time a few weeks ago here in Denver when the Sonar tour rolled through...he played last but stayed out on a school night to finally check him...fair play to him , the kid knows how to dj...came on with a fast banger, lost the crowd and had to reel us back in w/in an hour and he did. was bogus to only see him for an hour to begin with on that tour, but it was worth the sleepy work day that followed ...that being said, Dixon would be a more suitable top choice, with Roman Fluegel behind him.

Where is DRUMCELL or Sandwell District, shaking my head on those. Some of the dj's i think deserved the respect they received with there rank. At least half of the poll is a joke.

But it's just a popularity contest any way you look at it.
