Troxler first? Bleh.

I know this is a fan-voted poll, so I thought Solomun would have taken it, with his name and label getting wide recognition. Didn't vote for him though...but still like him, thought he'd win.

Very very happy for Dixon though!

Agreed, EROL should be in there. Oh, and DJ Psycho too! He'd swat all these fly skimmies.

essential faq concerning the annual ra poll:

Q: where's my homie x / trending/mainstream producer y / veteran dj from the olden days z? why isn't he featured on the list?
A: because he didn't get enough votes. this might be due to his low profile, the fact he doesn't dj at all (as in: never) or the rising suspicion he has passed his prime (and you’re being a tad nostalgic).

Q: (groundbreaking / skilled insider) dj x ranking below (wellknown/well-loved if slightly less adventurous) dj y? are you kidding?
A: underground icon does not a chartstormer make. mainstream consensus rarely matches/rewards trailblazers.

Q: position 50-100 are far more interesting than your top ten/top 50 djs – why did you mess up the ranking?
A: nobody messed up the ranking. the poll is a popular vote reflecting a consensus among a worldwide audience. but seeing as (compared to other polls & audiences) a lot of ra-members are active members of the scene there is reason to believe cutting edge djs might be recognized by their peers and therefore enter the top 100 even though they aren’t household names yet. for further details see above.

Q: why on earth did dislikable / airheaded / sell-out dj x make the list while diamond geezer dj y did not?
A: though popular vote might be influenced/determined by sympathy most of the people voting won't personally know their favorite djs or maybe even never have met them in the first place. their vote might be based upon (big room / festival) performances or even streamed mixes and – to a lesser degree – the portrayed image of said act through channels such as ra. also they might like/fancy different characters or judge a personality by different standards.

Q: why does the top ten seem less meaningful/more hyped up every year?
A: this might be due to the fact that electronic music's popularity is ever-increasing and at the moment still spreading around the globe which in turn means a lot of people voting might be new to the scene and/or lacking profound insight into the techno / house tradition – or you in turn might be growing up and attaining more and more hindsight / discerning judgment.

Q: if this poll does not reflect actual performance or achievements but merely presents a watered-down consensus, why do you keep doing it every year?
A: because of all the response (i.e. debate & traffic) it creates. vice versa: why do you carry on reading and assessing it?

Bravo!

A dj who is clearly off his trolley and needs a name tag to remember his own name. What a rare bird indeed.

it's cool to see a few more newcomers in this list, breaks it up a little bit

most people with an interesting opinion don't even vote so I don't know why people get so irate about whos on the lists each year...

the good dj's will always be playing and playing well - being underated should be seen as a blessing in disguise

I think people need to remember that this is this years, not the last ten years, DJ poll

Maybe it was Sasha and Digweed being in the list that threw people off?

What kind of idiot thinks Armin is tribal trance? Someone without a clue obviously.

Great to see Cassy on that list. She played one of the best sets I heard all year.

these type of polls shoudln't even exist... this isn't some stupid tv talent contest. this type of contest only brings hate and unnecessary cache shit. ghetta is a dj, and he plays "edm", if his fans come here then these djs will head the polls (skrillex, avicii etc.)

make a list with no order, some comments and that's it.

seth troxler at number 1. predictable

tINI should be higher.

seth troxler!!! no1?? i'm not having that especially after that shocking display at time warp this year, i've never seen anything quite like it. nothing wrong with getting a bit loose but getting totally off ya head before a gig is so slack. absolute shambles.

this chart is not really a proper indication of who is the best dj out there its just who is most invogue at the mo. lets face it there is no way maya jane cole is a better jock than say theo parrish or kerri chandler?

it seems to be the top 100 djs and invogue producer so dj a bit.

out of interest, why do you think ben doesnt deserve such recognition? not that i think this poll actually has any kind of real benefit to its nominees in the real world but i think he holds quite an interesting position at the moment; introducing a lot of people to different styles of music with a unique and charismatic style etc. with hessle and with his sets. hes also excellent at channelling his energy and enthusiasm to his audience. the guys definitely going places

Not worthy of their spots? So being a great selector and DJ and being able to blend genres together seamlessly is not being worthy? These guys live for finding and playing amazing music.

I still keep wondering why there are not 2 separate charts - top producers and next to it for top djs as it often does not meet together at all as there are many producers who don't dj at all...
Also the new rule allowing to choose only those mentioned in diary... but who cares, personal preference always beats the charts so why do I even care... maybe because this well known sites and charts are being viewed by new people and those may get easily mislead by this. What I look for is the album of the year, let's see what's gonna show up.

exactly. picking on these two in a DJ poll is ridiculous.

they each play amazing music, regardless of genre (although i understand that can be discredited here as trend-hopping/trying too hard), bridge gaps effortlessly, construct their sets meaningfully and - most crucially - are technically world class DJs, especially Ben IMO.

Thanks to RA for this poll. Very interesting as usual.

I do not understand why there are so many agressive comments...

I've been eagerly awaiting this shit storm of comments, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with you people. I feel like the outrage of a Jamie Jones #1 last year was much stronger than the one we have here with Seth "Serato Face" Troxler. Too many people are distracted with Scuba for some reason. Let's keep our eye on the prize people; don't worry though I'm here to right the ship. Tell me how mad you are that Troxler is #1, go ahead get it off your chest I can tell how upset y'all are. Just get it out of your system; you will feel better afterwards I promise!

talking about popularity and what not.... i remember soul clap being in the top 20 a couple of years back, now they didn't even hack the list. not saying they should or shouldn't be on the list or anything but it still comes to a bit of a surprise that they haven't made it at all. guess their case demonstrates though that popularity is becoming a more and more fugacious thing in the world of electronic music.

Maybe he's a bit "mainstream" for this site, but putting Carl Cox all the way down at #57 is laughable when you're talking about ranking DJs.

Also, tINI at #15 seems...odd.

It doesn't matter but it's more credible than the DJMagazine list..

Strange how many people saying "shit list" etc when RA never chose it; just showing the numbers voted for by RA users. Of more poignancy to me are the new DJs making an impression that I don't know much about, not the established stars that feature every year.

I'll definitely be taking more of an interest in Bicep for example. Quite like their productions but haven't heard their DJ sets as yet; clearly they are pleasing a lot of people.

If we talking gigs blah blah I know for a fact Jimpster by july 2012 :had played in every continent but then again most of the guys in the list play techno. Dixon's sets are a reason his #3 because they're that excellent and meticulous

great to see Roman, Robag and Gerd on the list, great to see the three Arpiar guys on the list, great to see Dixon on 3 and Ame in the top 20 and finally good to see Matt Tolfrey, David August, Daniel Bortz and Tale of Us on the list, although I only know their productions.

Think the poll isn't far off as its based solely on this year... Chuffed for Tale of Us.
Two huge upsets though, no Nicolas Jaar (Come on!) or Erol alkan - Who killed WHP with a crazy and unexpected, deep house set! Happy for Eats Everything as well, top guy

tried to stop myself commenting but so many people are missing the point that this is an opinion poll? if you dont agree with it your just disagreeing with other peoples opinions, and everyone is entitled to one whether you like it or not?

my top 5 are all in the top 100, but i don' t care either way. They're MY favorites from the last year, and the 5 I enjoyed seeing most. For example, Harvey was miles ahead of anyone I saw this year, but its my experience and opinion, each to their own.

Having said that, glad to see Mano and Bicep in the mix, no matter how pointless/insignificant it is, its still some kind of reward for their great years.

Also insulting artists with non-existent proof is just downright disrespectful (Scuba example). God help anyone who hypothetically finds themselves included in a Top 100 list of their profession, and they're torn apart for it!

my two cents...
