Atlanta/Birmingham based house label MK837 has started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com. The objective is to raise funds to move from in house mastering to professional mastering and to hire a publicist.
“MK837 was started in early 2010 on $750. Kevin, Chris and I had the dream of starting a label that wasn’t shoehorned into a single niche genre while at the same time having a very distinctive sound of its own,” says label manager Dave Richards. “We also had two rules for running the label as well. The first being that we would run the label as ethically as possible to ensure that our artist got paid and were treated with the respect that they deserved. The second was to never go in debt to run the label.”
After three years, MK837 has just made its 57th release. The label has worked with more than 40 different artists and has even helped a few of them to launch their careers. Some successes include being featured on Matt Darey’s weekly podcast, having multiple tracks selected by Beatport.com as must here tracks, the #1 download position on Satellite Records and even a top 5 release on the iTunes Dance Chart.
MK837’s Indiegogo will end on March 1, 2013. The goal is to raise $14,500, which will be used for professional mastering and publicity services to help better raise awareness about the label. MK837 is offering a wide variety of perks ranging from free music, wristbands, shirts and all access passes to their events.
