RA News
The Bunker have lined up Speedy J and Peter Van Hoesen for a party at the new venue in February.

Honestly, is this necessary? There are so many venue spaces in the immediate surrounding neighborhood that I feel like this venue may have trouble surviving similar to Studio B's fate. I guess I can't complain, because it will be several blocks from my apartment. But, I am actually a large fan of the DIY venues that pop up around Bushwick and East Williamsburg.

Well, I will say that I wouldn't mind the Bunker being relocated. Public Assembly is the worst venue known to man.

Well, supposing that Output has really really great sound? Maybe that would change your mind? And Public Assembly's back room is fine in my experience (just sometimes crowded).

Output is going to be Funktion One's North American showcase. Pop-up venues are fun, but I wouldn't mind having a home base for techno.

More underground clubs the merrier. Plus, Public Assembly is pretty cool.

Is it really going to be their showcase club?

Do you know if this is Cielo's sister club? Cielo's owner was opening a club in this area.. Wondering if this is it.

Yes. And from what I've heard it sounds INSANE.

Wow, can't wait to see it

While it would be nice to go somewhere where there's some decent amount of room and consistently amazing sound, I doubt it would make much of a difference in terms of my partying patterns.

At least the people involved in this club aren't making the type of grand announcements preceding its opening that the people involved with District 36 did. BTW, whatever happened to that club anyway? LOL

Nice. Matar knows what he's doing. I wonder if blkmarket and co. Will throw parties here.

Hopefully other promoters will get in on the action as well but ultimately if the club chooses to cater to the NYC underground for some of their events, it is a promoter driven market.

"I was fortunate enough to get a full tour of this yet unopened club in late November of last year. It's got two proper rooms. One has a 250 person capacity.. and the main room has about a 600-700 person capacity. Main room also has 2 levels and perfect sightlines to the stage from anywhere in the room. It's an old industrial building, so ceilings at some points are over 50 feet high... and yeah, don't even get me started on the sound. Club has a roof deck, fire place, probably 25 personal bathrooms and by my count somewhere between 3 and 4 bars.
Edit: This will not be a "techno" club. Friday's a rumored to be on the House side and maybe even the slightest bit commercial. It'll be open 7 days a week, but main room events will likely only be Fridays and Saturdays."

Not sure how reliable this comment is (especially regarding capacity), but still something to get pumped about.

Getting excited about a sound system is no reason to get excited. Heck I could think of a few NYC clubs that had great sound systems that I could have LOVED but that potential was squandered because the people running it did not know what to do with the venue.

I'll get excited once I know this club will have some type of staying power and that promoters that I respect throw parties there on a regular basis. Until then it's just another partying option that exists. More options are always good but not worth getting excited about until there is a reason to.

Speedy J and PvH aren't enough for you?!

A Matar run, Funktion 1 showcase club with a Bunker residence is plenty to get excited over.

Speedy J at Bunker will just bring out the Jersey Shore wannabes just like the last time he was at Bunker. Personally I wished it was the following week's lineup with Fred P that would open up the new club.

A club is only as good as the parties thrown there. Yeah Cielo has some good lineups during the week I don't see underground heads flocking there during the weekends even during the rare occasions they bring in an underground act on a weekend night.

I'm sorry but jersey shore wannabes do not know who speedy j is. I've never seen close to a Pacha crowd at bunker.

All I know is when I went to Bunker when he was spinning there was a somewhat scary crowd there that I have never seen at a Bunker party before or since. Not my cup of tea. I do look forward to what bookings wind up there in the future that might entice me to go. Who knows maybe if AlgoRhythm throw one of their parties in one of the rooms I might be enticed to show up. :) :)

I'm excited for a nice club with great sound that plays techno. I'm sick of all the pop up and warehouse events that get busted by the cops.

Wish it was a little closer to the subway but I won't be picky :o

forum/internet negativity never ceases to amaze me, im looking forward to visiting NYC later this year, and if theres a new club, decent sound and a good booking policy then im happy, surely NYC residents should be too!? more clubs means more opportunities, dont bash a place before you even step foot in it!

stoked.

agreed - public assembly sucks so so much!
this new venue sounds like euro clubs.. good sound, probably not much vibe, but the roof sounds nice..

Probably not much vibe? How does that even make sense.

Not bashing it at all. I'm all for new venues but I'm not going to get overly excited until it stands the test of time. Too many venues have come and gone with a great deal of hype behind it. When they book something I'm into I will gladly go. Every club in the city (except the Sullivan Room) I'm willing to go to if there's a booking and/or party they bring in that I am interested. The more clubs the better but I refuse to put any club on a pedestal no matter how long it has been in existance.

In other words I'm just trying to temper people's expectations and not have them rush into declaring it the second coming of ____________ (whatever club from the past) and let it establish its own reputation over time.

Very excited about this. I am hoping it does not turn into that terrifying night Speedy J played at Bunker.

Promoters are really putting themselves on the line each time they throw a DIY party. That's a lot to ask from someone. Also, Studio B closed for reasons that had nothing to do with surrounding competition. Also, what competition?

Nicolas knows how to run a club. Will be a great venue and party for the heads.

I agree. I always felt that Cielo being located in the Meatpacking district kind of sucked because their lineups are often excellent but the crowds that hang out in that area aren't typically the type for underground dance music. Williamsburg seems like it could be a much better environment. Nicolas Matar is also an awesome DJ, the mixes he's made with Willie Graff are my favorite deep house CDs

As far as I'm aware, Studio B's issue wasn't so much an issue of competition with other venues, it was noise complaints from neighbors and violating fire codes with regards to capacity.

Personally, I could not be more pumped for the opening of Output! Since the Studio B days it's been all underground parties, SRB, and a few Cielo/Le Bain nights for me, which has been fun, but as someone mentioned above, it's nice to have that solid go-to joint to listen to good tunes in a low-key location (i.e. not in Meatpacking) that has better sound/is more convenient than SRB. I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling.

And Cameo, Glasslands, and Public Assembly attract a specific range of music and crowds - one that doesn't include a whole lot of techno/tech house/deep house. If Output focuses on those genres - and the first 3 nights suggest they are - then they shouldn't have a problem separating themselves.

Can't wait!
