 | RA Review "Linux / Ellipse" marks the halfway point in Modeselektor's quest to present 50 dance floor weapons to the world. Returning to the label after 2011's "Deluge" / "Duel," Marcel Dettmann seems the perfect choice for such a watershed moment—after all, who else has such an unerring knack for turning out..

| #5 / Thu, 17 Jan 13 21:49 I rather like it. Not much more than tools honestly, sound like they could have appeared on MDR, but definitely effective. Good DJ fodder.

| #7 / Thu, 17 Jan 13 22:32 Any kid wielding a cracked copy of FL Studio and a hooky sample pack off the net could knock this dismal, tracky dreck up in an afternoon.
If they were by Kevin, 17 from Bolton they'd go straight in the bin, and righty so. But it's Marcel Dettmann, so they get released on 50 Weapons.

| #12 / Thu, 17 Jan 13 23:50 I guess the streak of awesome eps had to come to an end at one point. Also these are way too clean to appear on MDR.

| #13 / Fri, 18 Jan 13 00:06 ... all a matter of taste! To quote my friend Gerd Janson: 'Die Platte ist großartig, Techno mit Eiern!' - 'Excellent record, this is techno with balls!' I personally like the record as well, it sounds like a homage to the glory days of those Dance Mania records we couldn't decide wether it is house or techno! The record was also played NYE at Berghain/Panorama Bar and people went nuts ... so I guess some people liked it quite a lot

Then we came up with the term 'tech house' and everybody hated it.

actually i think you're right, dettmann played ellipse in paris a month ago or something and everyone went crazy at the one minute mark with the tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac but IMO its still true that lots of people could pull this off on fruityloops in a day...

| #21 / Sat, 19 Jan 13 15:32 Linux is a great track. Sounds awsome on a big system and works well when moving in between stuff. I played it in the main room at Cable.
Its Dettmann yet again showing his great dynamic production range. Hes by far one of the best and leading Techno producers there is.

| #25 / Mon, 21 Jan 13 19:42 (Edited: 23 Jan 13 19:36) Yawn, in my opinion Dettmann hasn't produced a slamming piece of techno since Lattice, i did enjoy Deluge on his last 50 weapons and the Range EP on Ostgut but I find most of his recent output of the last couple of years quite boring.
