The young producer from Los Angeles has revolutionized electronic dance music, and become one of the world's most popular artists.

"Aged only 25 years old (sic), a dilettante douche bag attempts to interpret dubstep and fails miserably. He has graduated from being the vocalist of a shitty emo band to becoming a shittier electronic music dabbler. But, since he is popular, me must suck-up to him for moolah. Gotta spend that moolah on a swanky ass Ferrari."

Reading between the lines wasn't much fun.

This could make for an interesting interactive performance if people were allowed to bring their own drills.

Seriously though,Skrillex didn't disappoint me aa much as the fact that, apart from Kraftwerk, the line-up isn't exactly up to 20-year anniversary standards.I think Aphex Twin,Daft Punk,Underworld,Chem Brothers or other big names could also have been included.

indeed im wondering if the OFF parties are the only ones we will go to :-)

It'll be packed when he is on, but If you don't like him, then don't go and watch him.

Major crisis averted, move along, there's nothing to see here.

To be fair, Sonar has always tried to market itself as some kind of festival of advanced music and art, often booking very experimental performers. I can't imagine that any of the usual Sonar crowd enjoy Skrillex's music, so it seems like they're trying to broaden their customer base to include younger people or to commercialise the festival somewhat.

Sonar has always been eclectic and thats what makes it great but, Skrillex? Really?
Someone is taking the piss, or needs to shift some tickets.

Just looking back at the bill the first year I went and how much its changed.

People wonder why the volume of off-sonar parties has swelled so much

To be fair to them.. Sonar try to cover the whole spectrum of electronic music.

That means there's going to be stuff that isnt for everyone.

This forum was full of the exact same complaints about Deadmau5 playing last year.

To be clear, I agree with the complainers. I dont think Skrilllex or Deadmau5 (or Fatboy Slim for that matter) are good enough for Sonar, but I've at least come to accept that from time to time they book more commercial acts that wont be up my street and I'm OK with it as long as there's enough other things on the line-up I want to see.

Point is, its not unprecedented, so why the outraged surprise?
