| The Feed The first piece of content from Diplo, Skrillex and A-Trak's new YouTube network is a history lesson in Detroit techno, and SPIN isn't feeling it.

| #5 / Tue, 19 Feb 13 22:06 I dunno. I think it's about time for Frankie Bones to chime in on some of this business. That would be something for the books. Anyhoo. When I hear the music they are trying to play at that party for cell phone cameras, it sounds an awful bit more like U.K. 'ardkore.

Haven't we all heard this before. Dog Blood...pfff...more like Dog Shit. Talking about "punk rock vibe"? Looks like Dance punk never crossed their minds. As usual Skrillex is shitting over everyone's face but most of them are enjoying it.
Punk rock was about making a statement against the pedestrian manufactured mainstream. What statement are these assholes making? Just a bunch of fuck-up salesmen trying to sell their product by inducing nostalgia in the minds of people who were not there in the first place.

| #8 / Wed, 20 Feb 13 05:54 It will be interesting to see what effect this video will have on things. No doubt the kids who are into Skrillex et al. will be like, "Who the hell is Kevin Saunderson?" and start looking for his stuff, since he's now been validated the aforementioned group.
I'm a little confused as to why they decided to make this video, however. What these two are doing now obviously has a very, very tenuous link with the things being discussed in this clip, and in the case of Skrillex, at least, I doubt he'd even heard the word "techno" a year ago, except perhaps as a misnomer for electronic music as a whole. Is this a sudden attempt at credibility? A genuine discovery and subsequent love for the genre? Or perhaps just a misguided and shallow attempt to understand history?

praise the lawd! I only recently actually researched the beginnings of techno, and im afraid to say I too used techno as a all-encompassing term for electronic music in the years preceding. I agree completely with you in terms of skrillex. He comes from a heavy-metal background, and moved into 'shotgun' electronica (i.e. a spattering of electronic styles in a single release, showing a relative outsiders perspective of electronic music. He didnt grow up with techno, nor will he probably ever understand it fully, as nor will I. the reason for skrillex's success in mainstream circles is much the same as that of other "EDM" artists (i use "EDM" as a term to describe those who create and curate that bombastic sound that is common of the "genre"), they take snippets of legitimate electronic music, and bend it so as to appeal to the mass market. real techno will never be mainstream, nor will real house, nor real garage, nor any genre legitimate in its own right, in its most up-to-date form. as such, i don't, as you, see why these three released a video 'educating' the masses of relatively clueless fans, about the beginnings of techno. In his own right, i am a big fan of diplo though.

| #14 / Wed, 20 Feb 13 18:30 Diplo used to be great in 2005, but now? I wouldn't be caught dead listening to his tripe nowadays. His FabricLive album still has regular rotation in my car of course.
