Thats my understanding anyways.
The first one is Riot in Belgium - The Acid Never Lies.

I don't understand why people do this... why wouldn't they want their tracks to be known yet? If that's the case then they shouldn't be handing copies out, right???

In my experience white labels constitute a test press of a record that is about to be released, and are usually distributed to industry people for their listening pleasure, or use in sets if they are DJs. They're not necessarily super exclusive, as white labels tent to be passed around quite a bit. I am not too sure about the whole "producers want their tracks to be unknown" concept. I actually think that the real reason why producers keep some tracks on the DL is to build up hype about a track that they are working on so that when it is finally released by a label they sell as many copies as possible. This means that people KNOW about the track but they just dont have ACCESS to it. There are many tracks that have been passed around by superstar DJs for up to 3 years before they get released for public consumption. Many such tracks end up selling very well because of the fact that their reputation was built up for such a prolonged period of time. It is more probable for a DJ to not want to release a tracklisting of his or her set because he or she doesnt want other DJs to be able to have access to his or her sound.
