Get Physical call on Dixon from Innervisions to mix the latest installment in their acclaimed mix series. ‘Body Language Vol. 4’ will be released in late April.

Following on from Jesse Rose, the choice of Dixon sees Get Physical moving further away from electro towards more soulful sounds. “I was glad to take up Get Physical’s offer to design a mix for them,” says Dixon. “Of course it’s not one of my usual or typical outlets, but I think it gives me a chance to reach a new and different audience on top of the one I usually have. Showcasing your style to listeners that are not too familiar with it is always a challenge.”

The mix features plenty of cuts from Innervisions labelmates Chateau Flight, Henrik Schwarz and Stefan Goldmann, as well as lots of vocal tracks - Larry Heard’s popular ‘The Sun Can’t Compare’, Dennis Ferrer’s new remix of ‘Love Can Damage Your Health’ and what promises to be one of the biggest underground house tracks of the year, Martin Buttrich’s remix of Tracey Thorn’s ‘It’s All True’. Dixon on his track selection: “In a time when a lot of people play music that is very empty and reduced, I wanted to create something else. The aim was to put together a selection of tracks that have a certain soulful quality about them. But without falling for the standard clichés like wailing divas or noodly Rhodes solos.”

Dixon has a long DJ history, including an association with jazz-house aficionados Jazzanova and a residency at the WMF Club back in the late nineties. These days he’s busier than ever, running his Innervisions label with Âme and holding down a monthly residency at Club Weekend in Berlin. ‘Body Language Vol. 4’ is Dixon’s first proper mix CD since his ‘Off Limits’ series finished up four years ago.

’Body Language Vol. 4’ tracklist

1. Timo Maas - Slip In Electro Kid (Edited for Body Language Vol. 4)
2. Chromatics - In The City
3. Owusu & Hannibal - Whats It About
4. Eric Rug Feat. Dynamax - Tribute (The Laroye & Ky Bonus Dub)
5. Chateau Flight - Baroque (Henrik Schwarz Live Version)
6. Marie Boine – Filer Til Voui (Henrik Schwarz Remix)
7. Thom Yorke - Eraser
8. It - Women In Toilet (Stefan Goldmann Macro Version)
9. Larry Heard pres. Mr. White - The Sun Can`t Compare (Long Version)
10. Henrik Schwarz/Ame/Dixon - Where We At Pt. 2 (Body Language Version)
11. Karizma - Tech This Out Pt. 2
12. Télépopmusik - Love Can Damage Your Health (Dennis Ferrer Re-Remix)
13. Tracy Thorn - It`s All True (Buttrich Main Mix)
14. Herbert - Moving Like A Train (Smith N Hack Mix)

’Body Language Vol. 4’ mixed by Dixon will be released on Get Physical Music on April 23rd, 2007.

Excellent and very singular yet very accessible mix, love the feeling and intention Dixon seemed to put behind it. I was profoundly indifferent to deep house (even if this is not classic deep house, but you know what I mean, I don't wanna duplicate the debate there was on ILM about that question) for the last five or six years, but this cd definitely got me into it again! Gotta mention the Owusu & Hannibal track sounds pretty close to Scritti Politti circa "Cupid & Psyche '85", especially the sound and intonation of the vocalist.

found it @ grooveman!! place to shop @ the beach!

EtienneM: that whole early deep vocal string of tracks is special. I think the transfer between 'In The City' -> 'What's It About' is the weakest part of the mix but regardless - the CD is special.

RA Review
Why sell CD mixes in this day and age? With sites like RA offering the very best in electronic dance music mixes free to download, you’d be hard-pressed to make the case for why ‘his/her majesty the consumer’ should shell out hard-earned money for what can be had for nix. The question is even more r..

Great review. However, no mention of Owusu and Hannibal misses the sleeper big risk hit of the mix.

I find this review frustrating. I give the mix 5 out of 5.

The mix is almost entirely in key. Programming is faultless and the finish is strong. Movement NYC is right about Owusu and Hannibal, both Lonnie's Secret and What's it all about, are brilliant tracks, songs too!

The mix is also consistent with Dixon's style of deep house that he has been championing for the last ten years, not just it the wake of minimal. Larry Heard was included on this mix before Aliens Fabric.

So far this is mix compilation of the year for me. I hope it worked for Get Physical, and with Chateau Flight also called up, you'd assume so.

i disagree about 'Vuoi Vuoi Me’ beeing barely tolerable, because it's an outstanding tune ! Great review however.

Indeed how could the review not mention the Owusu and Hannibal track! I absolutely love this compilation...especially the new version of 'Where we at pt 2'.
I missed Dixon when he played at Fabric :(
Innervisions are coming back to Fabric later this year no?

This is the best body language to me, anyway. Brilliant job from Dixon. I agree with the reviewer about the Larry Heards song, but the rest oppinion regarding selection (especially last paragraph) is quite arguable.

I don't agree about the Larry Heard remark. Sure the track has been heavily/over played since, but Body Language 4 was released in April and it's still being licensed to major compilations... eg. GU033 Rio which isn't out til next month.

Curious that this review is coming out now, since the mix has been around for a while. In any case, the review just goes to show how subjective musical preferences are. The reviewer has major issues with with mix; I love it. This is actually by far one of the best mixes I've heard this year. It's one of the only ones I can listen to straight through (excepting that lousy "Where We At Pt. 2" track with its cheesy vocals (can we please stop putting cheesy overdramatic vocals in English in electronic music tracks? Or at least can we use them more sparingly? And can we get some help with grammar before we put them in (re: "I have every informations of you. . ." Umm. . . we don't say that.)), which I can't say of any of the other ones oft cited in these pages. The mix is a MIX in the truest sense of the word, as opposed to one bland boring extended song.

Excellent comp! It was the perfect warm up for Dixon's brilliant set at Sónar this year. I can still remember the vibe of that night... Great!

I know different strokes and all that jazz but i absolutely love that track. The vocal sample in it is from a Derrick Carter track so yeah it might sound a bit 'cheesy' (maybe it wouldn't have sounded cheesy if it was in, ummm maybe Mandarin?). It's like the third time that i know of that vocal being used in a track/compilation so i guess there are plenty of producers out there that like it...one of them being Phil K's Therapy Sessions, which was also a cracking mix just quietly.

I agree. And for those DJs who like Lonnies Secret by Owusu and Hannibal, I dare you to drop the track Le Fox - another sleeper hit from their 2006 album. Neo-soul with a nod to Michael Jackson circa Off the Wall. Dixon dives Off the Deep End with these mixes!

I love Resident Advisor and this mix.

But why are the music reviews always so late on here? To be reviewing a album that was released in April now seems a little strange. Maybe this is the reason why the reviewer thinks some of the tracks sound obvious and overplayed as it is 6 months after the album was released and probably 9/10 before they were selected.

IMHO, Dixons podcast was off the charts I can not wait to get my hands on this!
