Latest compilation in the 'House of Om' series mixed by Mark Farina includes cuts by Kerri Chandler, Uneaq and Freaks.

Mark Farina has been with West Coast house output Om since the beginning. Equally known for his jazzy house mixes as his deep house productions, over the last ten years Farina has amassed one album, several singles and ten compilations for Om including five volumes of his respected Mushroom Jazz series, which fused acid jazz, house and hip-hop.

Like Farina's 'Sessions' mix from last year, his latest CD walks the line between deeper San Francisco grooves and more jacking Chicago house with tracks from Kerri Chandler, Uneaq, King Kooba, Olivier Desmet & Chuck Diesel and Farina himself.

'House of Om' tracklist

1 Lurob - Delicious
2. Gavin Boyce - Stick With It
3. Bobby Valentine - Car Garage
4. Uneaq - House This
5. Kerri Chandler & Monique Bingham - In the Morning
6. Olivier Desmet & Chuck Diesel - Gary's Groove
7. Vibezelect - Come Chill
8. White Collar Criminals - A Brighter Life
9. Soydan - Taki
10. Freaks feat. Robert Owens - Right Now
11. Public Access - Skeleton Keys
12. The Littlemen - What's the Time
13. Gawron Paris - Don't Stop Dis (Bryan Jones Remix)
14. Mark Farina - Cosmic Melody
15. Neil Bainbridge - Radio Tonic (Tommy Largo Remix)
16 King Kooba - Bleu
17. Leon Louder - Picture of a Loop
18. Ben Armstrong & Randal Soeung - Wrong Turn (Rhythm Plate Remix)

'House of Om' mixed by Mark Farina is released on Om on April 10, 2007.

RA Review
Jack built a house and in it lived some people who god made phunky. The house was located in a house nation and in it people got housed. They often liked to talk about what ‘real’ house was – perhaps even referring to it as ‘a spiritual thing’. This all happened rather a long time ago.

for me it's more important if the music is good then dated. i mean i would rather listen to alot of older so called 'dated' music then alot of the current shite going around.

but at the end of the day if farina still delivers the goods in a club (not sure if he does - ill find out at fabric next month) then good on him!

I hate to say this but I've been to Farina's gig on May 11 @ Trilogy and it sucked. It's strange to see that even the review for his noew OM compi is bad too!

I agree with robbie y. I think it's important to note that being in the "Ableton age" isn't nessecarily a good thing. It just makes producers more far removed from the funk, disco, and electro they used to sample and therefore have less soul. I'll take a well produced house track from the mid-90s over some kid with ableton who automates some white noise/pan filter through his track.. boring.

That being said, I do agree with the rating of this album. The mix was not interesting.

When I buy a CD I just want to enjoy listening to it. For this sort of disk I want it to have great tracks and be well mixed etc. I don't really care if it "sounds old" or if "old people" would dance to it. What is wrong with old people dancing? I'd like to see more old people dancing. I think the reviewer is stuck in that trap of thinking everything has to be "cutting edge" to be good. Dance music - house music, is old news anyway. So what?

This disk has some cracking house tracks on it. Stand out tracks for me are Gary's Groove and the White Collar Criminals one. Who could ask for two more wicked house grooves that those?

Forgetting all the scene nonsense this is a solid disk with some terrific house grooves that you don't get to hear on your average store-bought compilation. I like it 4/5

I enjoyed Mark Farina's fabric live even though I only got to listen to it half way in the car right after I grabbed it like a bird and prey out of Sound Garden at Fells Point in Baltimore Maryland. Like that mix, I defintly would agree that House of Om is not one of his greatest. I don't know why, but don't seem to get as much out of completely listening to Mark's House of OM.

At the very least, House of OM is better than Digweed's fabric, but that's all I'll give it. However, out of 5, I could only do 2.5 to 3 for the overall disc. I know I've heard better.
