Matthew Dear revives his False moniker for a second album. '2007' is due for release in mid-July.

Dear has been a busy beaver so far this year. In addition to releasing 'Asa Breed' under his own name and the aptly titled 'Noiser/Fred's Bells' single as Audion, Dear has just put together a new long-player of False material, his alias for more experimental techno. Why call it just 2007? "The music, I think, is very relevant to the time and technology, so I wanted to call it something simple, something basic," Dear told RA. "I didn't want the title to distract from the music."

The album's fourteen tracks are stitched together as a live mix. "It plays like a DJ mix, almost," says Dear, "I think it's a good ride." Drawing together swampy atmospherics and dribbling beat clusters, '2007' promises to be a haunting addition to the Minus catalog.

'2007' tracklist

1. Indy 3000
2. Meat me in the Markt
3. Warm Co.
4. Timing
5. Alright Liar
6. Plus Plus
7. Face the Rain
8. Dollar Down
9. Disease/George Washington
10. Act Like Children/Excalibur
11. In the Heather
12. Fed on Youth/HLM/DLG
13. Stomachs/Ankle Biter
14. Forgetting

The album’s first single, ‘Fed On Youth/Face the Rain’ leads the charge with a vinyl release in July. Matthew Dear will also be touring extensively this summer as Audion and with his band, the Big Hands.

False ‘2007’ is released on Minus on July 20, 2007.

Matthew's moniker as false always delivers the goods. Heard a track already, not sure which one, but it had everybody was going insane.I am sure the whole album selection is a mindbender.

RA Review
It is not such a big surprise that Matthew Dear has decided to name his new album ‘2007’ since it looks like being a big year for the Texan-born producer. Not only has his pop and vocal debut ‘Asa Breed’ been getting solid reviews and the ensuing tour lots of coverage, but he has dared to release a..

MATTHEW DEAR AKA AUDION AKA FALSE IS PROBABLY THE MOST CUTTING EDGE AND INNOVATIVE PRODUCER PRESENT IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC.

HIS LIVE SHOWS AND DJ GIGS ARE ALSO NOT TO BE MISSED.

HIS RESPECTIVE ALBUMS SUCKFISH AND LEAVE LUCK TO HEAVEN AS WELL AS HIS FABRIC 27 MIX COMPILATION ARE PRIME EXAMPLES OF HIS PRODUCING AND MIXING AGILITY.

THERE IS NO DOUBT, IN MY OPINION, THAT HIS NEW ALBUM PRESENTED BY HIS FALSE MONIKER WILL BE ONE OF THE HIGHPOINTS OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC IN 2007. NO OTHER NAME BUT "2007" WOULD BE RIGHTFULLY FITTING.

Saw him as 'Big Hands Live' playing his Asa Breed tracks at the Benicasim festival in Spain. Solid. A nice guy too.

“dared to release a refined and somewhat mystifying album on Richie Hawtin's infamous minimal techno imprint Minus.”

Dared to?! Que? Um… he’s been releasing records on Hawtins’ labels for five years now: www.discogs.com/artist/False
It'd take a second to reckon...

I question this reviewer's grasp of techno if he struggles with this, and doesn't know Dear has been 'daring' to release on Hawtin's label for years...

Maybe the reviewer really meant: ‘No matter how many times I listen to ‘2007’, I just can't quite get a hold of what’s going on…’

I really don't understand how this is like being in a doctor's waiting room either.... the only sense I get from this review is that the reviewer didn't get it, couldn't describe it but felt the need to praise it anyway. We can all do better than this. Sorry to be a bitch, but...

i am total agreement. the review reads like the author discovered dear about a year ago when 'mouth to mouth' came out. this false album is a clear development, but fits very much within dear's earlier releases under his own name and the other false releases on m-nus...

it is kind of telling that 'fed on youth' is described as 'comfortingly familiar' because this is the most audion-esque track on the release. but viewing as an audion distraction/side adventure misses the point...

and i really dont understand the comparison between dear's album and troy pierce's 'something more' mix. they are different beasts. one is an artist album, the other one a dj mix...

an album like this deserves better...

I didn't much of this album to be honest. Love Dear, but I prefer him as Audion or Matthew Dear DJ or Matthew Dear and the big hands band.

Hi disconnect and chrisdisco... sorry to upset you with my review (yes its really me) but maybe you shouldnt look at things so literally... and perhaps more literarily (barring the changes of the sub-editor!!!) "Dared to..." yes as in yeah I f@cking know what the guys done its my job, but have a look at the fact that "dared to release a refined album" might mean he has crossed the threshold and put out another good album, one that stands out a little and one that makes a good mark on a good label even though he just released another good album. He's daring because his actions seem effortless, not because he simply did something. Also check the previous context.

As for docotrs waiting room... minimal techno/textures with their metronomic ticking are great for bending the sense of time (in a psychadelic way), but sometimes can leave you a bit sick, spacious and waiting for the change... also there is a strong ambient (as in wallpaper) effect to the album, at least for me, but only SOMETIMES. As I said in my review, the best thing about this album is NOT getting it, is looking for it and waiting for it, not having so easily there in front of you. I listened to this beast a good many times to try and find something to nail down and every time it was different. In this way, total respect and good vibes.

Thanks for the feedback though and keep firing up.

awesome its a full-length! From bathe on false has been next level. anyone know when fed on youth was produced? In the rich vs. ricardo set mutek 06 is first time played I know of. Crazy to think fed on youth and Mouth to Mouth may have been produced within the same couple months.

i agree that the review was a bit off (or maybe just worded poorly) when you consitter matt's previous output. but after reading the writes post here i can see where he was coming from i think. this album is amazing. i listened to it at 4am in a dark room on headphones while going to sleep and talk about deep! there is all kinds of stuff going on in this album. it's a listener for sure but would also sound amazing on a big system is a club. i don't know that i would call it ambient though. the openning track is ambient and that track in the middle that sounds like a bridge between point A and point B is also ambient but otherwise this is minimal to it's bones. there are some ambienty undertones to it but not ambient as a whole. as for the doctors office reference i can see it after reading your reply here but i liken it more to walking down a city street at night in NYC or any urban city with the street lights flashing by out of the corner of your eye, the random snatches of conversation heard in passing, looking down the dark allies as you pass... that sort of thing...

can't see how anyone that listens to minimal can call this boring... but different strokes for different folks i guess...

i'm loving the album, top-notch production, and one of the best full-length releases of the year.

Finally managed to get it at Phonica this wknd. This album made my home hi-fi produce the strangest noises I didn't even think it could make!!! From the opening wind howl to the pulsating bass-wash in the middle to the crescendo of voices at the end it was unbelievable throughout...amazing album

I can't wait to get hold of this, just hope it lives up to the hype... he has a genius ability to know what will work on a dance floor

for example if you try and describe noiser or mouth to mouth to someone they sound like they would be crap, but in the club they work perfectly... that takes a special type of talent

I have listened to the album three times and I must say that is is one of my favorites albums this year so far.

Matthew Dear himself has said in interviews that he created his False moniker to produce and release music that leans towards the more Experimental and heavily minimal side. On this seventy minute Cd he accomplishes just that.

Buy it now.
