| #7 / Fri, 09 Nov 07 12:02 my understanding is that perlon likes to create a total experience - not just the music but also the graphic design. (and sonically, my understanding is that they find MP3s sub-optimal.) frankly, i like that approach; not to open the ol' digital vs vinyl can of worms, but i think something gets lost when everything becomes virtual. in perlon's case, the die-cut sleeve is a hugely important part of their image, and it could easily get lost in a digital format.

 | RA Review Finally, Thomas Melchior might have done something subtle enough to get him noticed. For years, Melchior’s productions, such as those on Superlongevity compilations, fitted so neatly into Perlon’s sound aesthetic that they passed under many a radar. Some of Melchior’s previous records even appeare..

| #11 / Tue, 18 Dec 07 13:31 agreed, top album. it does seem that side 4 of my vinyl is a bit off-centre though which is a bit of a pain

| #12 / Tue, 18 Dec 07 16:17 The review was ok and well written as always, but Pete, you barely talked about the music of 'No Disco Future'. I understand your choice not to dissect the tracks, but your description still leaves me with the question, 'well, what does it sound like?' and I own the album.

I love this album at the moment, his tracks just grow and grow on you..
Ps it is possible to be into this AND Jay Z you know. In fact I think there are snoop dogg and pink samples on this record (not that you can really tell its them).

funny you should mention, my better half did actually ask me if that track was 'a remix of pink'! i don't reckon it is a sample of her, although i can see the similarity.

| #15 / Thu, 20 Dec 07 04:27 Hey Steve, .... well, if you own the album and you still don't know what it sounds like, I'd suggest listening to it... I agree, I don't think I gave enough detail about the sound of the tracks - sorry, was under the pump. However, considering the sound design is very similar, here's my review of his 'Different Places' EP

| #20 / Thu, 20 Dec 07 22:20 hehe Perlon again decree another nice body of work, in the guise of Mr Melchior! I love hearing music that doesnt instantly praise or stand proud but merely grows on you with each listen !!!

Don't you mean Astronomer and not Astrologer? Though if Melchior's a palm reader that would be pretty cool. I can't tell if its a Pink sample from "I'm Coming Out" or if its a Santana sample from "Guantanmera" but you're right its something crazy. It's possible to be into hip hop and this but I don't think Jay Z and this are compatible at all. Different aesthetics, different target audience, different outlook. You'd have to acquire pretty variegated tastes to appreciate rockafella hiphop and perlon microhouse at the same time. I would buy the shit out of a Melchior remix of a Lil Wayne or a TI rap though.

| #26 / Sun, 17 Feb 08 20:39 This is, hands down, one of the great House albums of all time. The way it builts is just amazing (after track 4 you're thinking "he can't possibly top this" and then he does, and again, and again.) But for some reason with Melchior I get the feeling he's being forgotten. He seems a total DJ's/trainspotter kinda producer, which is a shame (hopefully i'm wrong about this.)
