 | RA Review In 2006, I spent summer abroad in Europe and while in England, I went to experience the legendary Monday night club Trash. In the queue to enter The End, I encountered the doorman, dressed in a black-and-yellow striped bee ensemble, who proceeded to look me up and down to judge whether I was worthy..

| #8 / Thu, 22 Nov 07 10:13 You make a good point - this is more of a document of a certain scene rather that a mix album per se.
Anyone remember the 'futurism' compilation?

| #9 / Thu, 22 Nov 07 10:33 Snore. I think BoomBox (and clubs before it like Nag Nag Nag, Studio 54 etc) have an important place in club land. Sure part of clubbing is a sweating gurning mass where everyone is accepted - but another part of clubbing is a fantasy land where people dress and create an other world atmosphere with different social norms. It may be frustrating if the music you like comes with a Gareth Pugh styled bitch'n'clipboard - but that's also part of the whole experience. Shape up or ship out and listen to it on your home stereo... if you can get past the pretence

| #11 / Thu, 22 Nov 07 12:10 Fackin'a ! Great review of a cd which will distribute 500 promos and barely sell 1200 copies worldwide. About time someone put the culture into a context and more importantly you actually have something to say about the'underground'
i do subscribe to Ra as a resource but lets be honest a huge amount of it ,is devoted to UWM aka ugly white men talking about music made by UWM. These people don't dance they just subliminate all that sexual frustration into inane records about 90% of current product.
Anyone with any experience of the us house contingent will know how geeky a lot of the most influential players are.Tenaglia could be a bingo compere and the most influential dj ever was called Lawrence Philpot.
There are nice guys Kevorkian and harvey come to mind but the British soul boy contingent are the worst offenders .Dim illiterates who mistakenly believe that possession of obscure American vinyl conveys some aura/mystique of 'authenticity'

| #12 / Thu, 22 Nov 07 14:16 Jesus christ, man...I used to love your reviews but now I can barely finish them. For the love of god, cut out the personal anecdotes and get to the actual review in far less time.

| #14 / Thu, 22 Nov 07 20:30 (Edited: 22 Nov 07 20:44) I have zero interest in fashion clubbing, but the bee did the right thing in this case. He didn't turn Stephane away because of how he looked, he let him in because he knew the music. I have no problem with this - "Do you know what you are going to see?" is a legit question on the door. Weeding out the ugly = bad, weeding out the clueless = ok

| #17 / Mon, 26 Nov 07 18:17 this is a seriously good review. the last sentence makes plain that someone needs to put a knife on the ties that hold blinding pretension and good music too closely together.

| #18 / Sun, 02 Dec 07 16:45 As a CD review, crap. As a tirade against a societal niche, ok.
The point of a review is to express how good bad or ugly a CD is. Giving a CD a rating of 2/5 on musical merit due to the 'scene' is a little foolish, dont you think?
