| #1 / Tue, 16 Oct 07 14:02 Seriously if you haven't heard the samples yet go here immediately and check them out: www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=56124 Heard most of the promo at Soul Jazz over the weekend and I can feel this one is going to be a classic. In a world full of soulless minimal releases and increasingly formulaic dubstep this is absolutely necessary! Too f!@# excited for this!

| #18 / Tue, 04 Dec 07 22:25 Fully agree...in particular I think Burial's use of film quotes is some of the best out there. Gives goosebumps sometimes! I actually like the homogeneity of this album and the self-titled, as you can just kind of wallow in them from start to finish without breaking the mood. And btw, is it clear Burial is a guy? For all I knew his/her identity is a mystery...it could be Mary Anne Hobbs for all we know.

 | RA Review 2006 was the year that dubstep finally broke and Burial’s eponymous debut rightly rode the crest of the wave. Now the reclusive south London producer returns with his follow up album, Untrue , which lays another strong claim to Burial being the most innovative and expressive artist not only in dubs..

| #23 / Wed, 05 Dec 07 06:31 I have to admit that this album really doesn't do it for me the way the first one did. Dunno it just seems really flat but maybe needs more listening... I loved the way the first album flowed, particularly the way that 'Southern Comfort' comes in as something a bit different. This one didn't have that degree of texture to it, I felt. Which is a shame.

| #24 / Wed, 05 Dec 07 09:38 although the sound and atmosphere is much like the first cd, i think this one is more emotional and deep...maybe because after the first cd i'm more confortable with this one-in-a-million style, and can give in to it more. I love it, most original electronic piece of sound in the last couple of years.

| #27 / Wed, 05 Dec 07 15:01 Completely agree with Chris Mann's review of 'Untrue'.I think this record is a landmark for British music in the same way that 'Unknown Pleasures' was.Joy Division's record has certainly stood the test of time and Burial's will do also. This record is dark , soulful , icily beautiful yet rhythmic and immensely listenable and unlike a lot of hyped music deserves every accolade it receives.

Good subtle variation across the disc - flows well too.

Next @ Nu:Logic | #33 / Thu, 06 Dec 07 17:27 According to metacritic this is the 11th highest rated album of all time... It's a damn good album though and I normally hate dubstep.

| #36 / Thu, 06 Dec 07 20:06 Really a step forward from the first LP, which was an incredible release in its own right. This really cements Burial as one of the most original and distinctive producers today, dubstep or otherwise. BIG!

| #37 / Sat, 08 Dec 07 13:28 overhyped as i see it.. although Burial is no doubt innovative and sincere producer doing great job, there's nothing groundbreaking about new album anymore // actually, Boxcutter's new workout was much more of a surprise and touched me deeper than this. period

| #42 / Fri, 21 Dec 07 14:43 It's a really relaxing album, but to me Underwater Dancehall would be this year's winner. I keep getting the impression that most tracks on Untrue are a variation on a single theme, no doubt due to this little vocal that keeps turning up everywhere.

| #43 / Tue, 25 Dec 07 18:24 It's a good album but there's not enough variation. The beats sound similar throughout. If I were really nasty I'd say it sounds a bit like Enigma for the 21st century.

| #46 / Wed, 02 Jan 08 19:53 So I'm not the only one who thinks Untrue is way over- rated. Awesome. I think Burial himself has said it's not his best foot forward. The debut was mind blowing. This is just sort of mind numbing.
This review was a definite solid piece though; very thought provoking comment about the new folk music for Britain, which makes me wonder: What exactly constitutes folk music now a days if we are to consider heavily processed computer music alongside traditional analogue and live instrumental stuff? In other words, can electronic music be considered folk when its not as deeply grounded in localized musical traditions as say a Pogues tune or an early Bob Dylan hymn? If Burial counts, then I would say all of hiphop-dom from Public Enemy and the Fat Boys to Masta P and Lil Wayne can also call themselves folk artists. Anyway, just a thought. If it's locale that limits the definition of folk music, and we buy the traditional history of techno's birth pouring out of gay, middle class, african american clubs in Detroit, then techno too is in a way originally a folk music tradition. I would argue as a genre electronic music in general constitutes a new kind of folk music for in our world of globalization, the internet, and cultural integration and cross-breeding.
This blog strand is old as hell now by blog standards, so I'll probably never hear anybody else commenting on the above, but it'd be great to get other readers thoughts on neo-folkism.

| #47 / Wed, 02 Jan 08 20:14 I think what you said is what is on many of our minds. The term 'folk' music may often be applied to traditional music, but of course the true meaning is something more in the sense of 'music for the people'. Now if you look at the masses coming together at festivals, as well as the entire international online community focusing on the various forms of (electronic) music, I reckon it'd be pretty hard to deny that this music too is for the people. Villalobos with his Fizheuer release, as well as Samim's Heater do a fine job connecting those dots as well!

Idiot. It isn't really dubstep, is it? More dub, like. Nor is it the 'One of the best albums of the last 10 years.'. Christ, you people...
