| #1 / Fri, 14 Dec 07 00:55 Completey agree with the choice of Efdemin. No one else came close this year. Slightly surprised though that you did not mention Lohn & Brot re him and Mariposa vis-a-vis DJ Koze which easily one of the best records of the year.

| #7 / Fri, 14 Dec 07 13:49 Definitely Efdemin, would be very interested to see what he plays, his chart on Phonica.com a while ago was a lot of Pigon stuff that was really good too..... really liking this stuff, anyone got any similar recommendations? Jamie Jones not get a mention? Harajuku, Panama City, the Should Have Gone Home EP, Strangers? all pretty darn good.. like nothing else you here IMO. My My? soem really good remixes and a lot of their production has been really good too...

| #8 / Fri, 14 Dec 07 14:58 Efdemin was a revelation this year for me, and good to see him getting the top spot. Also fits in with with the trend of house coming back. His podcast was incredible! I still can't stop listening to it and it's been six months.

'Mariposa' by DJ Koze on Kompakt:if stefan kozalla's pseudonym is dj 'throwup', "mariposa" is the best tasting regurgitation my ears have ever eaten! matthew dear/audion/false:my personal favorites from this year: "i'm a man" (audion's donation remix), "noiser" by audion (spectral), "i feel speed" dubfire (audion remix), "do it again" by chemical brothers (audion's house arrest mix), "indy 3000" by false on '2007'(m-nus), and last but not least "give me more" by matthew dear on 'asa breed'(ghostly int'l).

| #16 / Fri, 14 Dec 07 19:04 Hmmm...I really enjoyed the Efdemin album and his podcast but besides that which of his remix' or other productions this year really blew people's minds? If someone could give me a nice list to track down I'd appreciate it...At the same time could that list be anywhere as long and interesting as the individual output's of Matthew Dear and Villalobos this year??? Seriously both of them dropped so much amazing work I find it hard to rank Efdemin above them...I think Efdemin's "deep house" sound is very beautiful but is it really as revolutionary as an 'Asa Breed' or 'Fabric 36' (+ a ton of ridiculous remixes and singles?!)...Ultimately its all up to individual opinions but overall its a nice list.

Pigon - Promises & Cottonwood Pigon - Little Albio Street Till Von Sein - Gestern (Efdemin Remix) [My favourite] Sascha Funke - The Acrobat (Efdemin mix) Staffan Linzatti - Quibble (Efdemin remix)
Maybe if you compare Efdemin's productions to Radio Slave or Matthew Dear, it doesn't have the same 'charttopping anthem' kinda thing going on, and its not as rad as Villalobos, but if you're after warm, modern house music that just works, then his output is really worth checking. Plus I voted in all of these polls with my heart not my brain & I think there is a lot of heart in his tracks!

| #19 / Fri, 14 Dec 07 19:51 Aril Brikha deserves a 2nd mention for a breakout 2007... Mark August, Redshape, and Jamie Jones are right there too. What about Martin Buttrich and Gui Boratto? Every record they put out is special for me.

right on jeremy. efdemin's definitely got a different aesthetic, and it's a lovely one. 'promises' by pigon is brilliant. definitely one of my favourites for the year. also, for those that havent listened to much efdemin, use it as an excuse to explore the whole dial label/sound. they've had an amazing run, of late.

| #28 / Sat, 15 Dec 07 09:49 (Edited: 15 Dec 07 11:07) I would have put Ricardo first and probably Sebo K or Chymera instead of Efdemin. Also radio Slave has had once again an amazing year. The guy's output is incredible, i mean to be able to be so consistent wether its his own productions, remixes, label, etc...is incredible!

i totally agree! "Winter" is simply atrocious! For me it's the point where Kompakt lost the plot. They had always been on the good side of trance but that track was a horrible mistake. A few releases apart it has been a very disappointing year for Kompakt IMHO. And yes Ricardo is a funny guy....

Exactly, the warm bassline of "Acid Bells" is rich and brooding at the same time. It's dark but not too dark, it's definitely one of the best tracks I've heard over the last couple of years. I also voted with my heart.

yeah, i dont understand why so many people arent willing to see 'winter' for what it is - dodgy trance. just because brikha made some good music in the past (but perhaps not enough to quite justify his rep), doesnt excuse the crap he is putting out now. ugh. and for me the kompakt slide started quite some time ago. the new burger and voigt (despite the title) it is actually a nice change - the first kompakt in ages i've liked.

| #40 / Sun, 16 Dec 07 12:37 hey...... efdemin is #1 this year...no doubt! in my world #2 would have been ONUR ÖZER (VAKANT) with his "kas, mir" Album, because it is so well produced, has such a huge amount of heart and honesty! Other than that, the way he treats the base drum is very unique and you will have a hard time finding deeper darker danceable music ("Innervoices")! And PANTHA DU PRINCE would have been in my top 5 defenitly, because he creates sounds compareable to Efdemins in another darker maybe more "churchy" way...a track like "Florac" is just tellin me a story! Its not hard to realize, Efdemin is a "DIAL RECORDINGS" member just like Pantha du Prince! So...Much love, recpect and thanks to DIAL and VAKANT! Have a nice end of the year all of you! www.myspace.com/lorenzbrunner1 By the way..I have no idea why does not allow html links...

| #42 / Mon, 17 Dec 07 14:42 well ! i think efdemin deserves all the praise and attention . great dj with knowledge about music old and new . this is self evident in his dj sets . him and lawrence played a blinder in london over the weekend ! i have one big big bone to pick with resident advisor . there has been a lot house mentioned on these pages and yet significant house producers who are making the freshest and dopest music are missing on these pages ??? i really hope people would stop to be fad led and rather genuinely support dance music . for this music to survive people need to really stop fads and take the fashion out of the music because it doesn't belong there ! listen and talk to the likes of lawrence and efdemin and they play and are inspired by the very people that are missing on these pages . i really hope that if you guys are gonna genuinely write about house music ....then the real players will be included on those lists and maybe do get someone who understand the roots of house music instead of writing about mobilee and the likes as house ! ??? anyway my list which would be longer than five will look like this : dj jus ed patrice scott omar s lerosa move d lawrence efdemin sasha dive 3 chairs ovatow scott ferguson +++

| #43 / Mon, 17 Dec 07 16:19 I'm pretty stggered that Gui Boratto didn't receive a mention or a top 5 position. Not just because he's a damn fine and idiosyncratic producer but also because he has received so many positive mentions on over the past year. It's also pretty nuts that none of the Innervisions crew (Dixon, Ame, Henrik Schwarz, Alex from Tokyo, etc) get a mention.

the reality is a vote will never put more marginal artists at the top, nor is that the fault of the people voting.

| #50 / Mon, 17 Dec 07 22:17 glad you like the solomun mix, been enjoying it on my commute the last week alright!
Also yeah I totally see your point there, it is a contributors poll and the readers didn't get a say, which isn't ideal.
But I suppose all I was saying is that even the contributors aren't all 110 per cent behind it because it's the aggregate of everyone's views, and we are all really petty fascists.
well, not really, but you know what I mean! I can only speak for myself but I find it very hard to pick any category except best singles to be 100 per cent honest.
