I enjoyed it very much, however, I think that his older stuff was better IMO.

Posts / 30 RA Since / Sep 2007 Location / London | #12 / Thu, 20 Dec 07 11:53 (Edited: 20 Dec 07 12:01) onur ozer is quite good echospace not so, been done by basic channel million times better, even with the time frame in mind, they still beat this half-baked knockoff
disappointed theres no cobblestone jazz on the list, as thats one of the albums of the year imo
im kinda relieved theres no supermayer on the list tho, cos that would be a blow
and the presence of matthew dear twice is quite disturbing, hes the most pathetic singer-songwriter ive heard in my life, not too good as a producer either
but maybe im just missing the point here, thinking dear and villalobos are poo, maybe soulless minimal dreck IS the way forward
thanks, im going backwards

perhaps you should put some more positive energy into actually 'producing' something which 'you' feel should be a better direction, instead of sat at home effortlessly projecting your negative views. Although the second option appears to be alot easier for most faceless messageboard alias'

Posts / 37 RA Since / Dec 2006 Location / San Diego | #18 / Thu, 20 Dec 07 18:18 Efdemin and Pantha du Prince are both superb, props to RA. Absolutely love Echospace's Coldest Season too.
Gui Boratto's Chromophobia is excellent as well. Of course, I already got blasted for loving Aril Brikha's Ex Machina. I really liked Stephan Bodzin's Liebe Ist... Guido Schneider's Focus On... Joris Voorn's From a Deep Place, and Cobblestone Jazz' 23 seconds as well.
However, as a longtime Global Communication fan, album of the year goes to Tom Middleton's Lifetracks.

Guillame & The Coutu Dumonts - Face A L'est (Techno with a funky house spin)
Murmur - Undertone (Excellent dub techno)
Michal Ho - Screw the Coffeemaker (Funky minimal, Tuning Spork is on a roll!)

There is written so much here about absence of Chromophobia which is imo better then bother dear albums but well. Bodzin should have made the top 10 as his album is a represent of the style that so many DJs have been hammering. And it was invented by Bodzin.

I am quite curious now (based on the review here) to try out the Efdemin cd, based on the comparison to Pantha, which is another instant classic.
I wish that Ulrich Schnauss' Goodbye had gotten more favorable reviews, as it contains some truly stunning moments. Now if he would just release that remix comp...

Posts / 123 RA Since / Apr 2007 Location / Washington, DC | #30 / Sat, 29 Dec 07 07:40 I normally don't stoop to foul language in blogs, but in this case words escape me. Am I the only one who thinks its total bullshit not only that Matthew Dear logged two albums on the top ten (both of which are complete junk compared to his earlier endeavors BTW)? What happened to Jeff Samuel's Step? What about Uusitalo's Kairhunainen? What about Popnoname's white album? And about the countless releases from solid ambient artists like fennesz, machinefabriek, ben frost, BJ nilsen, tim hecker, stars of the lid, and the rest? And how the fuck did LCD Soundsystem end up on that list? That album's only sort of electronic and barely dance. Is this some sort of pitchfork wannabe site? I didn't think so before but I'm beginning to wonder. If we start counting semi electronic albums like sound of silver, we should also be counting Panda Bear, Battles, Fridge's the sun, and Deerhunter's Cryptograms. All of those are far better than LCD Soundsystem's sound of silver (which although impressive was nothing innovative or revelatory). Given RA's potential to be THE best review, news, and blog site for electronic music (particularly minimal and dance related), this list is a fucking half-assed farce.

Posts / 123 RA Since / Apr 2007 Location / Washington, DC | #31 / Sat, 29 Dec 07 07:43 Also, I'm not sure that chromophobia really deserves to be on a top ten list, but it certainly deserves more recognition than the false or asa breed dung heaps and certainly is more impressive than onur ozer's bore.

Posts / 123 RA Since / Apr 2007 Location / Washington, DC | #32 / Sat, 29 Dec 07 07:47 And Journeyman's Annual put's Untrue to fucking shame. Untrue only proves that Burial is a one trick pony (although if given more time in the studio and less pressure to come up with a stunning follow up to the brilliant self titled from last year I think he'd release an amazing follow up). Journeyman's Annual is proof deadbeat continues to own the realm of dub inflected and influenced electronic music. And that brings me to another point: where the hell are all the other Dubstep and future dub releases from this year? What happened to Disrupt and Lukid? Seriously assessers of best albums, get with the fucking program.

Hopefully next year the poll will mirror your personal tastes more accurately - I'm sure the team feel ever so foolish for not having consulted you before voting. 'Step' came out in '06 btw. And as an album, it's marginally less interesting than chewing damp cardboard, imo.

Posts / 123 RA Since / Apr 2007 Location / Washington, DC | #35 / Mon, 31 Dec 07 06:45 Sorry to shit on you and your hard work, Lee. I got carried away, and was very unfair to you, and for that I'm sorry. Your article was actually well written; I wasn't upset with your written efforts at all. I'm just astonished (and a little taken aback) to see the staff of a very well informed site like resident advisor picking, out of all the great releases from this year, two from matthew dear when neither would seem to hold a candle to his best works, the number one Untrue. (Okay so Step is too old - my bad, but if its damp cardboard how is the barely audible meanderings of that False "2007" better than damp card board? I dunno; nobody plays it in DC clubs that often so maybe pitched way up and at a chest rattling volume its more impressive, but I doubt it.) So I'm sorry to the solid writer Lee Smith, and if I could I'd retract my comments and simply lodge the only two real complaints I had, which are more about the 10 albums elected and not your solid efforts: 1) on doubling up the Dear releases, and 2) am I the only person who thinks that Untrue was just the proverbial wheel reinvented with more emphasis on retooled vocals? (Didn't Burial more or less admit that it's not his best effort in a hyperdub site review?)

New user Posts / 4 RA Since / Jan 2008 Location / Portland | #39 / Tue, 01 Jan 08 23:49 i am going to add to list of people who don't think chromophobia should be in the top ten... IMHO, it was a very polished release but not particularly groundbreaking or original. Plus, there are at least a couple tracks I could have done without, and that just shouldn't be the case with album of the year. Things I would have liked to see: Robert Babicz- A Cheerful Temper Cobblestone Jazz (so much more creative than either of Matthew Dear's albums...) On a final note, it's a shame that Dominik Eulberg didn't combine the best of Bionik with the best of Heimische Gefilde... that would have been a truely stellar album. And Asa Breed in the top ten? I just don't get it.

Posts / 63 RA Since / May 2004 Location / Norfolk | #40 / Wed, 02 Jan 08 00:29 My hapenneth's worth... Really surprised by the complete lack of Stephan Bodzin in either album or singles lists. I detect some sort of backlash against his sound on this site, which is a shame as I find his sounds attractive and compelling - a new voice, in my opinion. I agree with the guy above about Eulberg, although again a real original. Asa breed really disappointed me - I think its a shame that Matthew dear should split his work like he does, because surely the most interesting work is going to emerge through the synthesis of his sounds. Gui was good, but not great. LCD did it for me in a big way. A heartfelt album. I thought the choices of singles were generally pretty terrible. And i really do not get the dial thing at all... I have been to a couple of their parties and the music is fairly bland. Did anyone hear the Alloy mental album? How about "Body bombshell" by citizen Kane? Thanks - Happy new year to - keep up the good work! (nice to have such a high quality site devoted to the music i love)
