if 'planetary/city tales' is anything to go by, this album will surely be their best work!

I'm sooo damn cynical its stupid... but i'm really hoping this is going to be good, finding one or two of the newre releases a little less intelligent, but nonetheless, the power to surprise.

RA Review
It can’t be easy being Booka Shade right now. After setting up one of the most successful electronic music labels in recent memory, releasing two commercially and critically acclaimed long players and one well-appreciated mixed album, penning some of the most instantly recognizable house singles of..

Hmm, another complete bullshit (i.e., totally wrong, and self-important) review from Stéphane Girard. Can anyone really be surprised really? This album is solid; better than the previous two perhaps. Just need to get my mitts on the Ltd. 2 CD version. Mmmmmm, 2 CD version...

I just knew some people were going to hate this one, I mean it has a lot of ingredients that tend to irritate on a dance album and yet I easily prefer this over the rather overrated Movements. They really exhibit a idiosyncratic sense of space on this album and most of the songs work too (and I normally hate forced songs on dance albums.) First half is almost perfect, I sort of lose interest towards the end. Good record for driving around, nighttime approaching.

I haven't heard the album yet, but I don't think I would put faith in a reviewer that uses the word "adroitness."

i'm so disappointed.this album not comparable with their la st production "movements"...i could not even listen single track till the end, they could make very interesting album,i don't know why they did't,i mean this guyes got a such a big potential, and they coming out with this? i wander how they gonna tour with this album, and vocals are terrible,so i don't know, very disappointed.(

I was very excited about this album after hearing 'Numbers' as i love that track. So, OK it's no Movements but that's because it wasn't intended to be. I still think this album has got some beautiful tracks - 'Solo City' anyone? I agree with sporenburg in that i did lose interest towards the end but it most certainly is not worth a 2/5.

I must admit, after listening to the samples on iTunes the other day, I was kind of on the fence about buying this. Now that I see Stéphane has given it a 2, I know it must be good! LOL

LOL LOL Nasty...but true.

Although in this case it's perhaps unfair to dig into Stéphane too much because it really is an album that will polarize opinions. Still now I at least learned what Depeche Mode albums to avoid. ;)

I think Stephane should go to a psychiater, he's suffering from a disease called exhibicionism (in dance music reviwews), or something like that. The review is totally bullshit. The Sun... is a more mellow work from the guys. Movements was not bad, but to be honest, it's an avarage overrated mainstream dance album. This LP has more messages to the listener and it reflects, that the guys have found themselves and have grown up. Beautiful

The Beatles' albums are average overrated mainstream rock. McCartney's mellower solo work is far superior.

It really pisses me off when people say stuff like this, he is presenting his opinion in his own style, if you think you can do better go ahead and do it. And if you disagree with his opinion or style that's fair enough, but don't be rude about it.

Well said.

I like the album and it looks like quite a few other music reviewers do too. Maybe Resident Advisor should social it up and whack a public star rating on reviews.

I was sooooo excited when I got the album, and soooo disappointed after hearing it. I have been listening to doubtful industrial / synth pop in the 90's and it reminded me of how bad it was. "Control me" ?! Please. MOVEMENTS was a fuckin' masterpiece compared to that one.

Overall, I think Movements is a better album, but I do like this one. At times it almost feels as though they electronicized banjos and other elements of Southern Rock (maybe they did?). If someone were to tell me, "Imagine Booka Shade meets a banjo," I might've scoffed, but I was fairly pleased with the outcome.

Well I'm quite disappointed too... movements was great, but I also like their debut memento.
I mean it's ok if you are not active listening. the only song I kinda dig is karma car (there was a promo video for the single once which I liked)

OK. Gotta give the guys credit for solid work, from a musical stand point. But, its just not exciting. Its great to listen to at home chillin' or driving or something. But to get the masses moving on the dance floor, I dont see it. I would give it 3 out of 5 for the solid production work.

I think the techno world should appreciate this more than they do. It seems everyone says it's not as good, simply because it's not the same as Movements. Musically, this album is better than Movements. I'm sorry if you can't enjoy it with laser beams and glow sticks.

Top album, should not even be compared to movements. Both fantastic albums in their own right, but both have very different aims. one is more dancefloor orientated and the other is much more chilled and textured, sure the tracks from The sun....dont hit you like those from movements but is'nt that the key to most great music.......... its understated brilliance
