 | RA Review Border Community releases are as much about introspection as losing the plot and dancing, and Ricardo Tobar's latest is no exception. What is beginning to mark the Chilean out from his label contemporaries, though, is that his records swing firmly towards the former. Boy Love Girl sits somewhere b..

| #1 / Thu, 07 Aug 08 13:53 respect, but can we get another 4/4 epic 'a la' early BC releases? all for the experimental records, but throw a banger in there to shake it up a bit....as of late at least.

RE the 4/4 bangers, there are probably enough people copying early BC tracks now that BC no longer needs to make them. I love those tracks too, they really set the label up nicely, but I also love that the label and artists involved are capable of developing their sound and giving us something new - a lot of labels would try to pedal the same sound forever.

Love the track as well. Agree with you that the reason Border Community stood out is by being new - if they continued to make the sounds they made at first then they've lost what was exciting about it in the first place. Boy Love Girl Song still very much works on a dancefloor level as far as I'm concerned - although a lot of the output now is certainly more experimental. I think James Holden's career will eventually take that direction anyway he's never seemed to sit entirely comfortably in the club scene and saying he's an electronica artist suits him better than lumping him in with the techno scene or the prog scene or whatever... guess you have to respect that although I hope he continues to make dancefloor friendly material.
