 | RA Review Dance music has had a long love affair with adapting unlikely records into contemporary club hits. (It certainly didn’t start with JX’s Elvis remix, and can probably be traced back to Meco’s disco version of the Star Wars soundtrack). Todd Terje’s wrinkle on this tradition is one of subtlety—to coax..

| #7 / Mon, 18 Aug 08 22:32 Am loving the whole RVNG / Beats in Space thing right now, not least the fine work of Mr Sweeney.
I have been listening to Tim's new (limited it would appear) 'mix' 5.5 pretty much non-stop since it landed on my doorstep a few weeks ago. Was lucky enough to pick one up when I bought a couple of RVNG's other mixes lately. More of a compilation of tracks for the wee small hours than earlier on in the evening, this is an initially surprising but nonetheless highly rewarding change in pace.
If there is anyone out there with a sufficiently encyclopedic knowledge of music, I would be insanely happy if you could shed some light as to the artists behind the following tracks:
Track 3 - "One day, as I lay in the sky, with the earth on my back and the sun on my eye" - nice little late 60's / early 70's psychedelic song with a "La la la la la la la la la" refrain
Track 11 - "She's dressed to kill in a thousand dollar bills" - catchy little punk / post-punk tune with a "Ga ga gone" chorus
Track 14 - if I new any japanese, I might have a chance at this one but alas, not a word! Incredibly funky japanese jazzy hip hop similar to 'The Roots' in that it makes good use of instrumental sounds.
An eclectic group of songs but each has really caught ahold of me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

| #9 / Wed, 03 Sep 08 20:52 Hi plazzTT Thanks for posting a response. Snap! You have picked out the exact same tracks as me! I am afraid that I have no more to add to the list at present but believe me, I am trying to find out. I am still trying to pin down numbers 3, 11 and 14 (and 7, 13 and 17) but have so far had no luck. Will be sure to post what I find when (if) I find something. All the best custardmite

| #12 / Thu, 04 Sep 08 23:02 Got another Japanese number for you: 14 - Yura Yura Teikoku - It was a robot I asked a guy I know who works for the NME about track 11 and not even he knew who it is by. Unless we stumble across the artist by accident, I doubt we will ever know. Maybe that is a good thing? Then again, maybe not!

| #13 / Wed, 10 Sep 08 15:33 Thanks for that ID! I found one more: 3. US69 - 2069: A Spaced Oddity www.discogs.com/release/823669 It's written as U.S. '69 on some releases. He just included the first half on it on the CD, the original gets really spaced out in the second half

| #14 / Wed, 10 Sep 08 15:41 What do people who work at NME know about music anyway? The thing's not fit to wipe my arse with in all fairness...
Been loving the whole Tim Sweeney / BeatsInSpace thing for a while now so will have to get my grubby little mits on this sharpish.

| #15 / Mon, 15 Sep 08 18:10 Well done plazz. Am extremely pleased that you managed to ID track 3 as US69 - 2069 A Space Oddity. Will hunt the LP down. Thanks for that one.
I guess that just leaves 11 and 13 then? 15 out of 17 is pretty good! That said, asides from the US69 track, number 11 is one I am uber keen to find out more about.
Christophe - I take your point about NME! However, in fairness to the guy I know who writes for them, he also writes for other publications and knows his stuff. I would recommend you getting your grubby mits on the cd swiftly - you will not regret it.
