Morgan Geist - Detroit EP cover
RA Review
Morgan Geist could retire now and he'd still be considered one of electronic music's most respected figures. But judging by "Detroit," the first single from his forthcoming solo album, he's still got plenty more to offer.

Like the C2 Mixes and the original (although it has touches of his earlier tune 24K).

Not heard the album yet.. I'm enjoying Detroit (c2RMX1)
even with the cliche Detroit sample ;)

So, the fact that the sheer 'prospect [!] of Craig and Geist together on one 12-inch [got] people buzzing' makes it 'a strong release for Environ'? However mediocre it may have turned out? I don't get it.

Vinyl release postponed to the end of month or later due to insufficient vinyl material of manufacturer... LOL
Anyway this track sounds like remix or copy of 24K, which was released years ago (alongside Lullaby, which is on album too- in a little bit different version). Sorry Morgan, but to choose this as first single:S
I'm curious about Carl Craig remixes.

Yes that's why I gave this a good review. I never listened to the record.

Hell I didn't even read my own review. What did I even say in there????

Oh you didn't read it either...ah well. Let's flip a coin and decide whether to buy the record or agree with the review based on who wins!

ronan have you heard 24K? i mean im a big fan of morgan geist but i think this is an insult. its the same track re-hashed. they can postpone the vinyl as long as they want cos i basically already have the original!

I am v interested to hear if it's a rehash now actually Bazz, not heard that tune. Seems to be the consensus.

I just took issue with somebody suggesting I'd say it was a great record simply because it was Geist/Craig, which I obviously didn't say!

I'va always loved 24k, but as far as I'm aware it never made that big a splash when it was released, did it?

Really glad to see it getting a reworking by two guys with roots in the more soulful side of house rather than some of the other members of the nu-disco crowd. Hopefuly a few more people will get to enjoy the delights of what is still a lovely original this time round. A worthwhile revisit.

@backlashing: Nah, that wasn't even what I was trying to say... I just found the last three lines of your review somewhat confusing, that's all. However, after reading the whole thing once more, I think I got your point, so I apologize anyway.

yeah it is a bit strange really....

24k is an absolute classic i was surprised when it popped up in this track!
it was really annoying me for a few minutes trying to figure out what the 'sample' was

anyway i am a massive fan of geist hopefully he will release a 'new' 'miura' i will never get sick of that tune (i wish they would play it at xmas instead of 'fairytale of new york'!)
