one of the best!
One of the best preformances i've seen; cobblestone or by himself.

i almost buy every wagon repair, but don't play them very often because they are quite difficult to mix in a set.

I'd like to hear his drum'n'bass and hip hop now that he said he listens and dances to that stuff more than techno

Awesome interview, for him everything is music. I loved the part about the sounds that hears in his head..!
He is the best!

Mathew Jonson's track 'Marionette' is one of the all time greats! I have been wanting to hear Mathew play live for about 2 years now but the elusive man did not end up playing at Time Warp last year. Hopefully will see him play at this years ADE...

I love his livesets that are so much different when compared to many others - just like he says about the mid-90s drum and bass having more soul and the current minimal trend lacking it. Great artist and a nice article, thanks!

much respect to the man, but the hoodie looks gay :p

Great Piece!!
That hoodie is off the hookie. his girl prolly designed that for em too.
seen him w/ cobblestone, it is really amazing the sound those guys put out through nothing but racks of gear. nothing even close to a turntable was present. big time talent.

Another top interview. Good read.
Also, thank you to Resident Advisor and Mathew for the photo credit. :)
It was awesome to see him in Los Angeles again.

I really liked reading this interview. Always been curious and fascinated about Matthew Johnson and a lot of answers were provided here. One funny thing is that I always hade a hate-love relationship to his album covers that were always whack compared to his music and we used to joke that it must've been some friend who went to art school and well...waddayaknow... But even if I dislike them esthetically the fact still remains: They stick out from the rest and they have integrity and a lot of labels have no ambition at all in their cover design.

To true Thomar, Marionette is incredible... Seriously trippy 4am business.

If you're interested, here's a wicked interview with Mathew from the Red Bull Music Academy archives:

Enjoy...
