| #3 / Wed, 15 Oct 08 00:01 Nice article, too bad you went around during a kind of junky week for music in the city. I feel like the fall and winter are some of the best times to see headliners in nyc that you normally wouldnt see.
PS-i can see anyone at cielo and have a fuckin blast!

| #4 / Wed, 15 Oct 08 02:37 wow. It was hard to even read about such drudgery, though Montreal might not fair any better on a seven-day tour.
I think New York excitement only exists in Woody Allen movies.
your efforts are appreciated

| #5 / Wed, 15 Oct 08 04:20 Todd, Todd, Todd. You silly, twisted man. I love you.
Just a little addendum to your East Village guide. Food-wise, try the Sugar Cafe on Houston or Ishi-Kura on 4th and 1st. For vinyl, a well stocked place for the techno enthusiast is Vinyl Market on 10th bet. 1st & 2nd.
[Also, I was in Etherea today (and just flew back to Canada...whew!) and they get new stock on Friday. Just a lil' protip.]
EVERYWHERE I WENT I ASKED FOR DPOMB...ALL SOLD OUT!

| #7 / Wed, 15 Oct 08 05:27 great feature. of course, it comes as no shock that new york clubbing is expensive, the venues are all extremely far away from each other and the experience is pretty much always subpar, even when a good dj is in town. thanks for sticking it out though; that's what i call some journalism!
well, we still have the best food in the world.

| #8 / Wed, 15 Oct 08 14:07 yeah that was a pretty lame week for the experiment. shouldve attempted it back in may when magda, zip, seth troxler, par grindvik, alexi, cassy, efdemin, etc. were here..... would have been quite the feat.... cuz i barely made it through the saturday.

| #10 / Wed, 15 Oct 08 17:51 (Edited: 15 Oct 08 18:00) Depressing but frankly truthful article...Sh!# has been getting boring in the city. Its true that every once in a while you'll get a blow-out week but the one Todd went out during is very well representative of your average NYC week... Unfortunately the city is still dominated by indie rock hipsterism and 'models and bottles'clubbing. Maybe the recession will change all that though??? Cheers to Resolute for keeping the underground flag flying. I believe what nyc simply needs now is MORE underground, warehouse / loft parties offering a greater variety of music than purely mnml. I think house-n-home tried this out a few weeks ago but I sadly missed out. Anyone know how that went?

One on the rocks, please. Also, I'm just happy that NYC has a dance scene that I will be able to go to and enjoy. Unlike Toronto...

| #19 / Thu, 16 Oct 08 21:52 JUNGLE AND DUBSTEP LIVE!
You have to really know what's going on in the city to find a great week of music (esp 2+ events in one night). We definitely has lack of great sounding venues where all forms of music can spread their wings.
NYC has somewhat lost its edge and become Disney Land in ways but many are still pushing the music. Viva la resistance!!!

| #20 / Thu, 16 Oct 08 21:54 i was in new york last week (i'm from london) and the best night by far was bunker and the afterhours in a warehouse on meserole in bushwick.
cielo is overpriced and the search on entry is unbelievably intrusive (and regretably successful too..). plus they then charged me a dollar for ice when i ordered a bourbon on the rocks! the crowd is trashy as fuck too.
santa/o's party house was not much better, although i was there on a saturday and it was full of fat kids from jersey wearing sunglasses on the dance floor.
i ran out of energy for the party at jelani on sunday night which was a shame as i reckon it would have been decent and a lot of heads at the bunker were recommending it to me.
ultimately the 4am cut off and limited after hours options hurts the clubbing landscape, but the peeps i met at the bunker and the after party were all lovely heads trying to support the scene. it's not on a par with the big european cities, but has it's own distinctive charm (plus the next day clubbing brunch is so much better!). i'll be back...

| #22 / Fri, 17 Oct 08 10:19 Thought NY had a good vibrant scene and was starting to do it's own Berlin/London style nights. Bar 13, Love, Cielo and crime scene were cool venues.
You only paid 257 over 7 nights, to be honest that is peanuts.
Glad you had good night (s )

Its amazing how much those extra hours we are blessed with across the pond make such a difference to the clubbing expirience. i'd feel cheated being turfed out at that hour!
