| #351 / Sun, 18 Jul 10 22:35 Posted by leon-il-est-bon This all foreign crowd is irritating some Berliners (Hard nightclubbers), and in this way nightclub's managers. This new policy is a stupid protectionism system, as those guys are trying to keep Berlin "authentic". .
It's ironic a bit that the way they want to keep Berlin authentic is by forbidding people that come there for 3 nights to get in to the club, but the country itself accepted millions of imigrants in Berlin to live. It's too late now to keep it "authentic". No offence to anyone.

| #356 / Tue, 20 Jul 10 12:15 the mythical Berlin clubbing utopia is a part of history now. It's just more of the same here, albeit the scene is still healthier then any North American city, even New York. It is what it is.

| #358 / Tue, 20 Jul 10 13:35 My experiances of Berlin have been mixed- first time at Ostgut ton I went straight in with my girlfriend- bouncers were friendly, helpful etc
Next time I tried they were extremely rude and seemed to be looking down on me. Maybe I wasn't wearing the 'right' clothes and haviogn a bird with me may not have helped but when you go to berghain that's the risk you've got to take.
Other than that my clubbing experiances in Berlin have been overwhelmingly positive. the door policies can be strict but as long as you try to speak a bit of German and aren't too lairy it should be too much of a problem. Think the original poster was really unlucky though. Hopefully when I'm back in November I won't have any problems!

| #360 / Wed, 21 Jul 10 18:03 as an afterthought, if this and other clubs are trying to maintain an "authentic" Berliner vibe, then why promote on a site like Resident Advisor? This is an international site, used by countless "techno tourists" to plan a trip to go clubbing in Berlin and elsewhere. I think it is pure hypocrisy. They are simply creating artificial hype by denying people entry, playing up the places sense of self-importance. I have been to countless parties and clubs over the last 17 years and I find the whole charade laughable. If they really wanted to stay "authentic" and cater to local scenesters (most of whom seem to me to be transplants), they would promote on a local board or simply through word of mouth. It's all a bunch of bullshit, they want people to feel like they need to earn their way in by acting like they are too cool for school. That phrase sums up Berlin's scene: everyone is "too cool for school." Funny thing is I'm SURE I've been in the scene longer, and know more about the music, than many of the people that go out now, but that doesn't matter. It's all about posing and what you're wearing and acting like a dick.

| #361 / Wed, 21 Jul 10 18:19 Berlin is experiencing the death throes of a fading art/music scene as gentrification is swallowing the place up. I've seen this in NYC and California in the 90's, specifically the East Village and L.E.S., and later after many artists migrated across the East River, Williamsburg. In 5 years this place will be exclusively a playground for the yuppies and their brat kids. Most of the street art and most of the nightlife will be bleached out of existence (more than it already has) and you will have a nice, safe, sanitized outdoor shopping mall of a city with a few decent clubs and a few stragglers bitching about how great Berlin used to be blah blah blah. To be honest, in all of my travels, I have never seen the level of intense, rapid gentrification that I see here in Berlin. Very sad indeed, and painful to observe, mostly because I've seen it all before and I know exactly where it's going.

This would be pretty accurate if you were talking about Bar25 but regarding Berghain it is quite the opposite in my opinion.

Seriously thought went to Watergate for the first time last Wednesday with three male friends and the bouncer said "Wait until some girls come up and you can come in with them". Less than 2 mins later we were in with some random Aussie girls who were just behind us in the que.
Quality night and Seth Troxler was raving in there by himself for some reason?!

| #368 / Thu, 22 Jul 10 08:13 Bdubb, you don't like to read what other people write, now do you...? Berghain has the most international crowd I've ever seen, in any club! It's not because they want to keep an "authentic" Berliner vibe, that they focus only on Berliners... That's just a dumb remark... One of the special things about Berghain (which you would have known if you would have been there) is that the crowd mix is (almost) always spot on! The people selecting at the door do a very very very good job, but they are human, hence not perfect... If you get refused, suck it up and try again later that night or the next day... If you don't care about crowd mix, go and "party" in Fabric... Please stop being a whiny little girl and just come back to Berlin once so you can experience how it is on the inside... I recon you'll write some very different comments after that...

This would be pretty accurate if you were talking about Bar25 but regarding Berghain it is quite the opposite in my opinion. i completely agree with this. i don't live in berlin either, but have been to berghain numerous times, and the crowd is generally very mixed and very good. you will be hard pressed finding those hipsters and posers you are so dismissive of. sure, there are some, but overall the crowd consists of ordinary people who have come there to party alongside berghain's original core crowd - homosexual men. essentially it really doesn't matter how you are dressed when you get to the door, as long as you are genuine and authentic. i have often enough seen 'posers' turned away by the door staff. having said that, the bouncers aren't perfect either, and with berghain's every increasing public profile (due to exposure not only in the scene media, but also germany's popular media), the job they are doing is getting more and more difficult. on a recent trip we had a group of rich kids from another germany city queueing in front of us, who were constantly chatting about whether they'd get in or not, and how they had read about berghain and wanted to see it cos it is 'the place to be'. they didn't know about the music, they were sensationalists. and they were let in. this is an exception to the rule though, and i have never felt more comfortable and relaxed in a club as i have in berghain. sure, berlin's scene is facing some problems with authenticity, and it isn't as underground as it used to be, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better city to go out in with the same amount of quality music. the above sentence would also apply to berghain. and if you think it has been commodified and commercialised, then go to one of the countless underground parties that are happening all over the city. berlin really does offer something for everyone.

Simple as that! No tricks.
So if you want to go there be prepared there is a chance of being rejected, don't wanna take that chance DON'T GO! It's so simple..

Yeah I guess I am a bitter ass motherfucker. Going out to dance never used to be so damn complicated. You went to the club, waited in line, paid the doorman and you're in, have fun. The only time people got turned away from most clubs was if the place was full, and you'd have to wait for people to leave. The door people didn't give a shit who you were or what you looked like, what language you spoke, whatever. Some people looked like freaks, some people looked totally normal and nondescript. Everyone was there to have a good time, hear some music and dance. If you fucked up you would get ejected. This process of being corralled like a bunch of cattle or pigs and then rejected wears down my patience. Even after getting into any of these spots, the pretentious charade at the door leaves a bad taste in my mouth and taints the whole experience for me. It's funny because no matter who they turn away the clubs always have a good percentage of creepozoids and fuck-ups in there, weirdos and drunks, etc...so how is the policy effective in weeding out so-called "undesirables?" BLEH

| #376 / Thu, 22 Jul 10 19:05 I've went to Berghain/Panorama Bar over a weekend recently both Friday and Saturday. I was fortunate to get in both nights going with a guy friend of mine. Both Berghain and Panorama Bar are amazing clubs. You appreciate the door policy as long as you're not a casualty because it's a great crowd.
Not getting in isn't the end of the world, however getting through the door and having a great night was a memorable experience. It's one of the best or best club that I've been to. I can't wait to try to get there again.

Sorry who are you to judge that? You were not even inside. imo the doorpolicy keeps the right atmosphere inside and is therefore necessary. Tresor wasmany years ago a nice and respected club but you hardly hear from it anymore possibly as they didnt really have a doorpolicy. Sad but true.. Probably Berghains doorpolicy is not always honest but imo much more honest than those clubs where you need to bring girls to get inside. Hence I think they do a really good job. I also don't get why Berlin is overrated every time one got refused at Berghain.

if you dont get into berghain there are loads of other places to go, but if you're going to berlin with the sole intention of going there then not getting in is going to ruin your weekend...
keep going a) because there are hundreds of amazing parties happening every weekend and b) because if you do get into berghain it is, without question, the most memorising clubbing experience you will ever have, period!

Cologne people are genuinely friendly, warm and open and this makes for much nicer parties.
Cologne has many amazing house, tech-house and techno producers, djs and clubs.
The best of the lot is kunstpark koeln, its a techno temple.
cheerio Berlin, your time has come and gone.

| #384 / Wed, 11 Jul 12 15:49 Ok so this thread is really old. But if anyone wants help to get into Berghain or any of the other harder clubs to get into, I am thinking of starting a club advice service. This is not just for how to get into those places but also info on events that are not so publicised like open airs etc. So visitors can see the "real" Berlin.
I have lots of experience getting my friends who are visiting in, and showing them around Berlin so message me if you are interested berlinclubbing@hotmail.com

I've got a mate living in Berlin who provided this service for me when I visited last year, and I've got to say I would have had a fucking rubbish time without him. Before we hooked up with him, us lot were wandering around in the rain thinking the place was abandoned. He showed us that all the good stuff is, deliberately, totally hidden. The locals might not like it but I say you're onto a winner here.

| #386 / Wed, 11 Jul 12 22:27 I don't know why anyone would want to go to a clubbing city that's effectively a tourist haven. I'd want to go discover some of the lesser known cities in east Europe or elsewhere.
Berlin is overpopulated with tourists. Ibiza is the same. Las Vegas is overrun with drunk kids.
