The Tracklisting Monster Posts / 1590 RA Since / Dec 2006 Location / Toronto / NYC | #7 / Wed, 10 Dec 08 14:35 A bit disappointed at this list. It seems as though it is a repeat of 2007. Where are the other good acts like Half Hawaii, Smith N Hack, Juan Maclean, and Mikkel Metal?
On the plus side, glad to see Move D and DBX so high up on the list, but disappointed with Shed's low placing.

| #8 / Wed, 10 Dec 08 14:53 I think one of the reasons why some of the acts getting mentioned in the thread don't go up is that GOOD live performances are actually quite rare. They're tough to organize and pull off. I don't know how many DBX shows there were in 2008 but I can't imagine there were more than 5 or 6? I also wanted to vote for Carl Craig with Wendell Harrison at DEMF but that was a total one-off so didn't do so. In general I think there are very few great live acts that 'tour' extensively enough to be recognized by a broad array of contributors.

my list was 3 people long: DBX #1, C2 #2, Egyptian Lover #3. i think DEMF is enough of an event that even that one performance should count, it was indeed quite amazing. quote: Posted by molko999 zero interest in live performances.
you should go see any of those 3 i just mentioned, they would change your mind. also, UR live in any fashion is ridiculous. ditto Model 500.

i totally agree with you. i saw him 3 or 4 times over the course of the year, and he killed it every time, especially at minitek. that set was unbelievable!

okay, the both last ones are "local heros" but they already done a very good job and made the people crying and dancing!

| #26 / Thu, 11 Dec 08 00:37 Well.. there are only 10 acts on here, and they were voted upon. Assuming these guys got the most votes, this may explain why others are left off.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see anyone on this list, and am still kicking myself for missing Move D in New York over the summer. For my money the best act I saw this year was either Signal or Efdemin, both within ten days of each other in May. Heartthrob's minitek set was great. I liked what I can remember of the two hours I saw Lawrence in New York a few weeks ago. Maybe Jan Kreuger and New Years will be the best, though that may technically occur in 2009.
It's also sort of funny to see the word skronk on RA. A first?

Nôze Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal, June 1: "Nôze, however, was an even bigger disappointment than the rain. As you can hear on their podcast, it was a 'kitchen sink' performance that went from house to tango to klezmer with drunken shenanigans a-plenty. To my ears—and eyes—this kitsch was inappropriate and out of place amongst the smooth organic house sounds of Ernesto Ferreyra, Özer and Kaden. Though I am a big fan of Nicolas Sfintescu's label Circus Company, Nôze was ridiculous in the context of the party. Predictably, everyone I spoke to either loved it or hated it." - Elly Rifkin >> wtf? lame words for an act that's supposed to be #8.

Don't worry about the Move D set in NY...it wasn't his live. It was a deep house serato DJ set. Frankly I'm in the minority on this one but I found it dreadfully boring. Sounded like lots of this popular 'elevator music house' sound which has been pushed as the epitome of 'deepness' the last two years. Still, I really do like lots of his records (Drone, Quit Quittin' etc.) I think his live must be a hell of alot better and I think normally he doesn't even DJ with serato which could explain why it was a bit flat.
