| #1 / Thu, 15 Jan 09 11:59 From Here We Go Sublime stayed in my CD player for months. Love that album. This is sure to be something pretty decent again, especially with Mayer & Burger applying the finishing touches!! I keep just missing their live performances too. With a full band apparently. Very curious to see that.

I saw him play at the Amersham Arms early last year, no band, but still very good. I'll be interested to hear what his new stuff is like especially if he is teaming up with the guy from battles, amongst others.

Yeah, that sounds like an interesting collaboration. I remember the Amersham gig, but I think I was away that weekend. Did catch him at Plastic People the year before, with Tobias Thomas. It was a great night, but a Wednesday night!! (I still have the flyer stuck on my wall!) He played with a live band at Field Day in August, but I couldn't drag myself away from Richie's set. Tough choice!! Hope he's back here soon.

| #17 / Tue, 17 Mar 09 07:26 Is anybody here a musician? By 'musician' I don't meen just 'expert on geer' - because that crosscuts into maths and algorythms... I can't shake the feeling after alistening to his first album, that apart from 2-3 tracks, the album is like going to Tate Modern in London. You walk into a room with a gigantic red canvas, with a fat terracota line running on the side...and it's art. I love techno and I love tech-house, and I dig ambient, and metal, and am a pianist... but please help me out on which direction to approach this from, i'm really looking forward to hearing your views.

| #18 / Tue, 17 Mar 09 08:49 simply stating that The Field is a post-modern techno project doesn't do it justice as all electronic music is in its core post-modern. Also, the sound palette he uses is well-round up and aesthetically functional so i also couldn't call it 'experimental' as well. In a word, I would call it 'prototype techno' that being said i hope the new album is on par with 'from here to go sublime', one of the musical highlights of the past decade IMO!

| #19 / Tue, 17 Mar 09 09:20 Prototype Techno .. hmm. Why not?? Certainly broke new ground, IMO.
'From here to go sublime' is a great album, and I think it would be difficult to match, which is so often the case when something so special has been created.

| #21 / Tue, 17 Mar 09 13:52 "Silent" and "The Deal" arouse a huge pallette of emotions in me - they are what I like about this artist. But if you remember "Sun & Ice" and imagine it in quitar, to me it loses its 'postmodern' appeal, becoming instead like a two-chord Indy rock track by someone who's too young to sound so profoundly minimalistic, especially on their first album. And the track "From Here We Go Sublime" is not even listenable. It's more like a statement of not "I make experimental music", but "screw you - I make whatever I want", and I know artists don't completely meen that when they boast about it in interviews. The reason they refuse to acknoledge that SOME effort needs to be put (and inevitably IS put) into pleasing the listener is unclear to me.

| RA Review Crafting a sophomore record is always a thorny process, but if your debut was a critical and popular behemoth, add a few thistles. Along with Gui Boratto's Chromophobia , Swedish producer Axel Willner's From Here We Go Sublime was one of two high-watermark releases for Kompakt in 2007. An immersi..

barnett newman is turning in his grave. if you think it's all there is you should get this book - www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Theory-1900-2000-Anthology-Changing/dp/0631227083
then, maybe, you'll get to understand it (at least by your brain).

| #28 / Mon, 18 May 09 19:11 this one is not as approachable as from here we go sublime, or it least it hasn't been for me. i remember the first time i heard "over the ice" and "everyday" and was blown away. this one is a little more tricky-at first i thought the sound was too dense, too much stuff going on, but the more i listen to it the more i like it. i need a few more weeks with the record to pass final judgment on it. fehlmann rmx is enjoyable.

| #29 / Mon, 18 May 09 21:06 similar to his first. its defiently his own sound displayed again, more developed. can say not too fond of his live show...saw him in a nice small venue in support of 'sublime' and it was like watching him hit play on his cd. not much in the way of a performance or fluid set, but the dood was new to all that at the time, so perhaps he can put on more of show these days. dig his work all the same.

| #30 / Tue, 19 May 09 00:39 4.5/5 from me. A real gem, and a step up from 'Sublime'! The live elements mesh well with the programmed elements, creating a rich sonic field (ahem!). Six excellent cuts in a pleasing order make it that rare album that works from first track to last. Certainly one of the albums of 2009.

| #32 / Tue, 19 May 09 21:55 this is by no means as good as from here we go sublime. luckily, since fhwgs was so perfect, that only means that this album is really good. i don't know if it will have the same staying power but, i've been playing this nonstop. grab this album.

| #33 / Wed, 20 May 09 08:33 Didn't like this as much as the first one, the minimalism of the first release is what made it so good. I feel there is far to much happening here to enjoy it in the same way, its not bad but no where near the first. Oh well, not in my top 5 album this year, sorry.

| #37 / Tue, 26 May 09 17:13 i guess i really like it, but definitely not as much as the first album. i must be quite resistant to change as my favorite moments are the ones where the song sounds as much as the old album (with small variations, which is nice) as possible.

| #39 / Sat, 06 Jun 09 17:53 I don't really get why people are so into the Field. A lot of his tracks sound the same to me, doesn't seem like he puts a lot of energy into differentiating the tracks from each other or inserting enough detail to keep them interesting. I'm not really sure why this is huge and crossing over to the indie rock crowd but other (more interesting, IMO) Kompakt artists like Klimek and Andrew Thomas kind of stay in the ambient music ghetto. Ah well, to each their own I suppose.
