Man you got it twisted blowhole...I'm an Omar-S fan...That does not change the fact that he has an arrogant attitude. Still, I don't really give a fuck because his tracks are banging and his DJing is good too. I hope other people can see that too. Separate the attitude from the music.

can't blame him for playing all his own tunes. why would he play a bunch of watered down stuff somebody else made that's just trying to sound like him anyway? wouldn't call it arrogance, more like frustration.

why would you put all new stuff on a fabric mix? that would be stupid its meant to be about buying records. there's a few new things on there which is enough to keep people happy. and forphucksake don't worry bout my self esteem you donut your a nobody too

I was involved in the school production of "A Midsummers Night Dream" I have you know! My name was in the program notes & everything. I guess I HAVE made it.

Plumzine was/is a poster on Resident Advisor known for his comments which have not exactly been appreciated by many on the board.

As for the 'scientists', it's a bit of an inside joke which loses its humour when it is explained...rather complicated, you see.

Hope that clears it all up.

After reading these comments and listening to the mix tonight I was left thinking 'Is this it??' I heard nothing to get excited by... 'The maker' was a good track, have to try and get hold of that but the poor mixing and very up and down track selection just seemed odd to me from a guy whos supposed to have so many fans...

Its gone back in the CD stack and out comes Ame's for a proper mix CD...

Omar-S - Fabric 45: Detroit cover
RA Review
After years of cultivating a dedicated following with his productions, all of the pieces moved into alignment at the end of 2007 for Omar-S, culminating with the ecstatic plateaus of "Psychotic Photosynthesis." Omar was exactly what a lot of people wanted, and he had every sympathetic ear right wher..

On the ball review.

Great tracks, but that's all. I'm just glad that I missed the whole Omar S hype, so most of these tracks were new to me. The mixing is nothing special and it doesn't bode well indeed that the artist included no unreleased tracks. In terms of buildup and originality this comes nowhere near Villalobos' mix.

That said, this cd will remain near my car stereo for a while yet (along with most other recent Fabric mixes).

Flamman: 'the artist included no unreleased tracks.'

Wrong - have you read the tracklisting, ie. where several tracks are appended by the stamp 'Unreleased'...

The review completely sums up what I thought about it after a few listens and having read Omar's self-important interviews... I'd give it a 3/5 - it has a rather dull grey feel, no buzz or sheen, no real X-Factor. Quite bland and uneventful, but the groovin' detroit rawness and pure analogue production give some charm and merit.

But I think Omar S should open his mind a little more because you can hear that his range of influences is very narrow and his music suffers as a result...

agree entirely with the review, was a little worried it would get a thoughtless 4.5-5/5.

i was actually surprised by the review. personally i thought this was the best fabric mix in ages.

(to clarify, i hadn't heard a single omar-s track before this mix, so no accusations of fanboyism please :)

http://jukeboxbabe.com/
After the excitement of this dropping through my letterbox a few weeks back, I was a little disappointed. Not that its a bad mix or anything, just not setting my world alight. Sits nicely in the collection however I'll have to be really in the mood to listen to it start to finish.

Very well thought out review.

Little White Earbuds is here to hook up your ears.
rmart, i think people who've never heard most of omar s' stuff before will enjoy this mix a lot more (as the review says.) there's a distinct lack of thought behind its sequencing and for someone who bangs on and on about how he makes dj tools that you have to 'do something' with, there's not very much 'something' going on (but lots of simple crossfades)

@ ajmedway: my apologies, a little laziness on my part. I knew that most tracks were released and couldn't be bothered to read up which ones weren't...;)

a cd release of his best tracks unmixed would be so much better.

Not 'new' or 'fresh' ... study your catalog's from the 90's and you will find many records of this 'sound' but of better quality ... Moving on to the next trend.

Agreed, a CD of full versions of these tracks would have been much better, not horrible but not good either. Expected much more considering all the hype around this.

maybe next time he'll consider not being so arrogant and try and use other people's music because frankly his just isn't up to the standard...

great review Peter. for someone like me who hadn't been exposed to Omar S's material this works as a great introduction to his work, but not his DJ abilities. it sounds like what it is, a catalog compilation.

I guess that for someone this underground and closed off to general techno/minimal mainstream then Fabric serves as a huge platform to put his production name out there for all to see, probably his best to date. will hold my tongue 'til i see him live.

1.) i had to laugh a little while reading the review. not cause it's bad (it's really good!) but because of all the stuff omar was saying in interviews bout the guys he released: like being lazy and shit. this review basically says that he should have had some higher ambitions (new tracks, better mixing, fresher approach n everything). fun.

like the mix though.

aren't we living in a time when stuff like archival reissues happen 10 years after? when the stuff isn't available for purchase anymore why don't you just download it and make your own comp?

3.) also i hate it when people are writing "he's so arrogant. everything he does has already been done 10 years ago". Oh really, is it? then tell me WHAT so i can judge for myself. be specific! it's just soooooooo easy to say something like that. please people, tell me whose sound he's copying!

Best Fabric mix ever! And for the people who wonted to hear 'piu-piu' guys who plays from mp3 I wanna say that this one here is clasical mix yeah ol' good techno yeah track by track like 20 years before .. That kind of comments and revues like this up can be maded from people who is on a 18 years and 'they are hot..on top of the music mode'..5/5 is only rating for this mix.
