 | RA Review A-Trak, fresh off the Kanye Express, returns this month with two mixes at (basically) the same time: different labels, very different personnel in the track lists, different emphases, yet essentially the same feel, same splashiness, same shameless intent to entertain by any cost. And yet both mixes..

| #6 / Wed, 15 Apr 09 18:15 (Edited: 16 Apr 09 03:43) Damn...french house, mnml techno, electro, juke, house and uk garage. Normally not a big fan of the blog-house scene but I have got to recognize that A-trak definitely knows how to put together a nice mix...

I don't think is unfriendly to it, its just that 90% of the tracks in that genre have recently been pretty uncreative, derivative and way over-the-top. However A-trak has definitely set himself apart in selecting the better stuff and mixing it in pretty interesting and creative ways...But yeah, sometimes it definitely feels like a guilty pleasure...

agree with that. i used to enjoy this so-called blog house before realizing that there's little to no creativity left. i stull love tracks like 'beeper' though.

ding ding ding. nice descriptionn bernardo. i used to dj one place more this more eclectic style but i found it tiresome as well. i think a lot of americans (both dj's - like a-trak - and american "hipsters") coming from a more hip-hop/hip-pop oriented music culture here have been led to this style as a natural option outside of being "mainstream." i call much of it "hipster pop," not to say some of it isn't good. dj's at most regular clubs are expected to be a sort of "mobile/wedding dj"...or in other words mix every genre that can appeal to such audiences.

Totally agree. This music is complete crap. A-Trak does some cool tricks, but by track 4 even that couldn't keep me from skipping through the cd to see if there was anything good on it...there wasn't. Another Fabric cd that will never see my cd player again and that I consider a big waste of my hard-earned cash alongside Sinden and Simian Mobile Disco. This is not why I became a Fabric member!!! (I was hoping for a continuation of the (underground) sounds of Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Adam Beyer, Villalobos, etc).

You used to be able to select to only receive Fabric or Fabriclive, no such luck anymore. Having said that I don't miss the £7 a month and there are good Fabriclive mixes on occasion (Death in Vegas, Marcus Intalex, Noisia, Commix)

| #21 / Sat, 25 Apr 09 16:22 I was a bit disappointed by the Intalex one. Commix is one of the few recent F-Live mixes that I really consider a worthy addition to my collection. Before that, Tayo and the Stanton Warriors discs were really good. Recently listened to #12 again too, which is soooo relaxing The problem is that so many of these discs are filled with such incredibly nerve-racking music. All this electro house and 'eclectic' crap are annoying the hell out of me.

| #23 / Sun, 03 May 09 17:16 it is very funny when people who love dum'n'bass & breaks start to comment techno or electro albums like 'this is crap'. some people consider your lovable ones as a crap. music goes forward, you can stay on your station or try to hop on the train & get something different, if you are open minded enough.

Erm, since when did "commercial" automaticly mean shit??? My understanding of the ratings are they're based on musical merit/content not how "underground" the artist or track is. As it goes this mix was slightly over-rated by 1½ marks and sold my copy on a certain auction site for the princely sum of £1.66...

Funnier still is that I don't recall seeing any posts that complain about the fact that this cd isn't d&b. My complaint is very simple: I think this music is nervous shite. It's a personal opinion. What isn't a personal opinion is the fact that being a Fabric member makes it kinda difficult to "get something different". Rest assured, if I had a choice in this matter, this music would never get played anywhere near me and I wouldn't be complaining about it. If it weren't for the fact that I had Claude VonStroke and LTJ Bukem to look forward to, this cd might have been the last straw for me. Now, I'll just have to give that away to someone who does appreciate it (if I can find them...) You might say "it's only 8,50 Euro", but what the hell, that's 25,50 Euro's worth of horrible music that I have lying around my house now.

| #28 / Sun, 08 Aug 10 18:46 While I prefer the Fabric.45 to Infinity+1, they both are strong and taken together highlight A-Traks high degree of comfort in the hip-hop and dance music worlds. 'The two sets also illustrate how adept he is at drawing smooth connections between the two types of music. A-Trak also shows a remarkable subtlety of touch in bridging to dance music from a predominantly hip-hop base on Infinity+1 while doing precisely the opposite on Fabriclive 45.'
