E&S DJR 400 vs DJM 800 (with rotary kit)

I'm thinking about getting one of the two. My new mixer HAS to be rotary ... so does anybody have experience with the E&S DJR 400?

I would get the DJR 400 with the efx send & return - but this baby is heavy weight €€€€€€! - way more than the DJM 800 with no effects or nothing! Is it worth it?

I don't really use effects for mixing, just eqs... maybe the odd filter now and then, but I guess i need more info on the DJR 400 (don't suggest the xone 92, i really don't like it!)

thanx...

J.

I purchased the DJR 400 a few years ago and have never looked back! Prior to that, I used a refurbished Urei 1620 and prior to that DJM 500 and countless other mixers. Jerôme and DJ Deep have created a master piece of a mixer. You will never get the same feeling or sound out of the DJM 800. Light years apart. I know that the price is steep but the best DJ investment I have ever made. Keep in mind these mixers are all put together by hand and are not mass produced in China. I think mine was like number 240. If you are a serious audiophile, want rotary with amazing isolators (feel like GSA or Dope Reel) in a compact size then you need to look no further. I recommend getting the individual effect channels as an addition. Enjoy!!

thanks man! I was starting to think there was nobody out there with an answer for me. I had the opportunity to talk to Manoo from deeply rooted house about it a few weeks ago, he said the same as you.. i guess I am now sold on it, just gotta get my pennies together now!

I had a DJm800 rotary and I am selling it to fund a DJR400. I think I too have made the right choice.

It's just a thing, no big secret or anything, just diferent folks, different strokes.

rotary for some offers a smooth control in the mix... x faders are just for scratch mixing and vertical channel faders are not so precise and controllable in the mix. If you mix house/techno try a rotary mixer out... maybe you dig it, most do!

ahh i mix electro and techno, with a lot of drops, so i loop something and the put the crossfader in the middle and bring up the up fader quickly so i dont think i could do that regularly on a rotary but yeah ive never tried one so who knows, i wouldn't mind giving one a try

E and s is the one mate it is well worth the money. the second you plug it in and hear the difference in sound quality then play with the eq's and here how amazing the roll off is you will be impressed

Hey John. Yeah u will certainly love every second you play with the DJR 400. Well worth every hard earned penny you save to buy this bad boy! I also guarantee that it will improve your mixes. There is just such amazing warmth in the sound and the transitions are just so sweet!! Unfortunately you might soon become addicted to amazing sound quality and then you will want to upgrade more of your rig. Like perhaps a new tone arm from SME which can run you up to $5000. Ha!

don't be crazy, get an analog rotary mixer any day over a boxy digital thing like the 800...the difference in sound quality will be immense!

How does the quality of the 400 compare if you are using CDJ0's, I've heard the 800 will give you better sound quality for digital equipment?????

Which is the best cartridge that can really match with a warm analog rotary mixer, in this case E&S djr 400?
Don't suggest any eliptical or hyper-eliptical stylus...I know that if you do the best set up of the tone arm, the sound would be better than spherical, especially on a good strong belt turntable...so for me eliptical stylus aren't for djing but more for audiophile listen and for sure for any scratching and heavy back cueing...too heavy track-force so your vinyl's life would be shorter than with a spherical stylus.
Ciao

I own the DJR400 model number 373.. Sounds amazing, high level integrated isolator.. Even the headphone output is better than the big majority of mixers...

A 800 sounds crap&cold compared to this E&S.. Hand made french stuff what else ?

Also recently bought an E&S DJR 400, it was worth all the money!

Bare in mind that E&R is no totally built with discrete components but ICs (e.g Rane MP2016 and most other DJ mixers in the market)!

This question doesn't really need answering. Rotary mixers are supposed to be analogue, why retrofit a digital djm 800 with a rotary-kit?

Might be a silly question but does anyone know where I can try a DJR400 out? Obviously it's a lot to invest on a whim. Would like to experience one first.

From what I have heard you either have to know someone with one or make an appointment in Paris.
