The label YMC brought out T-shirts and sweaters a few years ago with designs from the legendary Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia (vols 1,2 and 3) by Danzig Baldaev.

The first two books are out of print and change hands for £100s but you can still buy vol 3 on amazon.

All 3 vols are brilliant! loads of photos, drawings and writing which gives a unique insight into an arcane world few in the West can begin to fathom.

I think u mean ENC. They have a few shirts. For like 99$.
The difference though is that, Americans like the guy that makes them dont understand that some of the tattoos u shouldnt put on a t-shirt. Its just disrespectful. Like the stars for instance or a knife going through the shirt. People used to get killed for those if they didnt earn them.

The books are great, I have all three, but they'll never compare to a real "zek" or con dropping some criminal science on you.

Ok, they dont seem to be selling them anymore though. We started making them about a year ago and selling them in a couple of stores and on the street in NYC, but I thought of doing this about 3 years ago when I first saw the books, just never realized it. My father had a few tattoos, he did a little time in Russia, but it wasnt a big deal. THere was a time in Russia when every third man in the country was incarcerated at one time or another. My grandfather had a few too but they were from the navy. I have a few myself. So i've always had a connection and wanted to share the art of this subculture.
U should get one of our shirts, at least then its really a Russian shirt made by Russians

Yeah I was thinking of ordering the one with the two cats smoking pipes, they are nice shirts. And I agree with you about the need to avoid wearing shirts featuring tattoos denoting status, it is an issue of respect.

Thank u, Someone from London ordered one yesterday, I thought it was u (are u from there?). Guess not. U can alson get a custom made shirt. Mix and match designs from different shirts if u want.
