Instra:mental - Watching You cover
RA Review
London-based production duo Al Bleek and Kid Drama—better know to UK bass freaks as Instra:mental—appear to be on a mission to make 2009 a great year for drum & bass (and, in the case of this release, dubstep too). It's one hell of a tall order, if only because of the sheer volume of dross being put..

Great piece, Instra:mental are on a roll!

btw, does anyone know what happened to the Darkestral label?

'Watching you is the most innivative tune of the year'

so what's so innovative about it?

NAhhhhhh No answer to this ...I mean my girlfriend just listening to Rock and R and B has an answer to this. ;-))

Totally different DJs like Skream, Dbridge and Gavin Herlihy just to name a few are loving this one

It's most people's opinion mate - read the review. But I'm not sure why it's a bad thing... (Sound's like it's your blanket preferences that are the issue.)

And it's a hell of a lot more playful than your average jump-up/techstep ditty, which in my book makes it - if not innovative - at least novel.

Any anyway, innovation is silly notion. If you don't believe me, try this:

Lets call this fresh !!!!!! Innovative sounds a little naaahh.. But nobody could deny that this is absolutely fresh if you like it or not. Not too mention that Instramental changed the face of D and B with their output in the last two years.

"totally different DJs"

you're making one absurd statement after another.

Er, I'm not so sure why citing Skream, D Bridge and Gavin Herlihy as different tyes of DJ is absurd. Skream plays in-your-face dubstep, D Bridge deep drum n bass (plus a bit of deep dubstep nowadays), and Herlihy jacking minimal/tech house. The fact that they're all into Watching You suggests it has something a little different, or dare I say it "special", about it. And being at the top of their respective fields, they should know.

If you're going to pick apart peoples' statements, choose ones which are actually troublesome. (Like unqualified "elevator music" accusations, for instance.)

Personally, my main problem is the growing stench of snobbery in this thread.

Although I was initially sceptical of the mildly cheesy vocal, a few good listens made me realise that 'Watching You' is indeed a quality tune. 'Tramma' I think is good, but nothing particularly special. I'd give this one a 4/5 myself.

Yeah, liking this one - the vocal treatment is weirdly and wonderfully addictive. Probably closer to electro than owt else though surely? Can imagine Aux 88 at their softest and most approachable banging something like this out even fifteen or so years ago.

Yeah, the Detroit vibe is pretty tangible, although I didn't make the Aux 88 connection. But now that you mention it...

Its Aux 88, its Aphex Twin, its Dbridge, its Photek, its 2 Step, its RB, its childish, its High End etc. Thats what i meant its somehow really genuine and fresh and Instramental got even hotter shit in the pipeline check the Japanese electronics RMX ;-))))) Really love how the built synth sounds in their tunes not just the usual Dub Chord delay sound ;-)) Kinda Bladerunner vibes

Not as good as the first release of Nonplus, but it's really fresh. In the same way I prefer "Melodies" by Spectrasoul on Exit.
D-Bridge, Instra:mental, Spectrasoul, Commix, Data have the freshest sound : a mix of D&B, Dubstep, 4*4 and Pop.

beautiful tune. These guys ARE innovative. Nothing around quite like what they're doing. listened to an unsigned edition of the Hospital Podcast and it was full of copycat Instra:mental vibe tracks. So distinctive. LOVE INSTRA:MENTAL
