Jamal Moss' Chicago-based label has had a prolific 24 month period, seeing the imprint's catalogue nearly double. RA's Lee Smith calls up the man called Hieroglyphic Being to see why there's so much noise to be heard.

Jamal's music is some of the strangest in the electronic music world but also some of the most interesting... Very happy to see him get a feature. I wish him the best of luck... Seems like he's going through some pretty tough times.

Also, thought it was quite strange the label mix actually doesn't have any Mathematics music on it? Its still a very nice mix though!

Listening to some of his records @ whatpeopleplay, how come there's only like 6 releases from the label at pretty much every digital store? Please help us support you by putting up your catalog!

First time I heard Jamal's music was on Frantic Flowers. I was blown away. Like the article says, I could sense the history, but at the same time it was so different.

I didn't think there was anymore kats still around like Jamal,,,his music is not abstract,his sound deal with the root of this music we love,,,,great,great,great interview,,,,,magical label (Mathmatics) Peace,,,,oh yea,,,i dont think artists or listeners apply concepts of Egyptology into their music arena anymore.

i got a few Mathematics releases.. like African with the main frame and Hieroglyphic Being. always playing "inscription" and "micro-electronique". i think you have enough energy Jamal to build one more planet big up to Mathematics and thanks RA for great artist introduction.

That's too funny about Nole and that first Mathematics 12"...I have never heard it myself, but I get that he's using it to try and motivate/push Jamal in one way or another. I was roommates with Nole around 2000 or 2001 (when they were putting out the first Africans With Mainframes EP...Nole actually unwittingly gave me the name Phazorslut) and, although Nole hasn't had too many releases, he's done some great tracks, too. I think somebody mentioned "Micro-Electronique" which I think is mainly one of his...it appears that the first two AWM 12" are more or less divided between Jamal tracks/Nole tracks, although I'm guessing there may have been some collaborative input or whatever. "Lovers Jak" is the business, too! I definitely respect Jamal's uncompromising attitude and work ethic (as well as the music, of course) and, as a fellow Leo, his mix of "arrogance" (as most would see it) and humility. Keep up the good work, Jamal, and everybody support Mathematics!!!

P.S. Jamal, if you're reading this...Nole is an uber-Scorpio (like 5 planets in that sign or something crazy like that) so you guys suns are "square" and he's got all that other stuff backing his up, so that's probably a good representation of why he's trying to push you like that!!!
