Isn't it time for a different Massive Attack group shot? Mushroom hasn't been with them since 2000 or so.

good news, been waiting on a new massive attack, still think "protection" is the best album and will be hard to overclass..

'the slate of high-profile guests' is not confidence-inspiring. massive attack's best work never relied on a battalion of outsiders.

Word, really dissapointed by the lack of Grant and Horace though. Thought that was the point of this album.

In their defense mind, I think everyone always has huge expectations for them to deliver the "new sound" (again). Which is easier said than done.

Unfortunatly have to agree with 'Obsorbalance', their last effort was weak. This one will have to be really good to win back the die hard fans.

RA Review
Reduced to a sole founding member, Robert "3D" Del Naja, and with Sinead O'Connor in a starring chanteuse role, Massive Attack's spark of unpredictable creativity seemed to have been snuffed out with 2004's 100th Window , firing only briefly during "A Prayer For England," an ominous roller that owe..

Saw them live at Brixton in November and they were sick. Admittedly a lot of the key material was classic tracks from earlier albums, but the new stuff still sound tough as fuck. Will definitely be picking this up.

I think Girl I love you (love the trippy guitar and the warped bass) and Paradise Circus (voice, bass en beats are totally spaced out) rank among the best Massive tracks of all time. The only thing that bugs me about Heligoland is that the remix of Psyche is so much better than the album version. Shame they did not include the remix as a bonus track.

'Paradise Circus' is absolutely brilliant. Shame the remixes were so disappointing.

Agree 100% on 'Psyche', was unbelievably disappointed by the original after hearing the remix.

I actually really enjoyed Breakage's mix of 'Paradise Circus.' Now where's the love for 'Atlas Air?'

I prefer the album version to 'Psyche'. It sounds more lethargic.

Love it. I wasn't expecting much after reading a few unfavourable reviews that mentioned it didn't sound anything like 'Mezzanine' [which I loved], but this is just great.

Probably I was expecting something more because the album differs from my definition for "Massive Attack". My favorites are Girl I Love You, Rush Minute and Atlas Air.

how can anyone in their right mind deduce that the only remarkable track from their last album is ' a prayer for england'.
its inconcievable that some of del najas masterpieces such as 'butterfly caught' and in particular 'antistar' can be disregarded.
iLONG LIVE MASSIVE ATTACK AND WHAT THEY CREATE.

Like most of the other Massive Attack album, the new album has grown on me after about 10 listens ... it sneaks up on you and suddenly you love it!

Classic stuff and it sounded good live too!

mixed bag i recon. better than 1000th window, but thats not saying too much. they should have given up midway through mezzanine. wouldn't spend a penny of the money i made when i sell gold on this album, listened to iut witha friend and was unimpressed to say the least

I loved it from the first listen. Excellent work.

Fav. tracks are Babel, Atlas Air but most of all Paradise Circus, what a track.

But I have to say I really like each track on the album, so it's a start to finish listen for me every time.

Definitely a creeper, been listening the last few days now and it just seems to sink in lovely. Let it in.

If you like Massive Attack, check out King Midas Sound playing live at Corsica Studios tonight for Beat Redemption. www.residentadvisor.net/forum-read.aspx?id=92903
"Kevin Martin is the man behind the Bug, whose dark, bass-racked dancehall record, London Zoo, was one of 2008's most formidable releases. This year, the Dorset-born producer returned with King Midas Sound, a project which, in contrast to the menacing mass of the Bug, is all about absence. Taking its sonic cues from the ghostly falsetto of poet Roger Robinson, Waiting for You echoes with quiet desolation, but there is also immense tenderness and warmth. It confirms Hyperdub, which summed up its first half-decade in the exemplary compilation 5, as one of our most exciting electronic labels"

Agree that it's better than 100th window. It's still quite introspective and doesn't contain as many 'tunes' as their first 3 albums. Couple of nice little gems though.

personally having worked for circa records at the time that blue lines came out in London and being the darling label at the time my loyalty for them have never faulted.Honestly though when Mushroom left the whole soul and hip hop feel that underpinned there most memorable work left also.I was not surprised with how 100th window was cos it reflected 3D to a tee.
This rates above 100th Window but when you are the 4th best ablum out of a possible 4 then you are average in that context..come back Mushroom

lp is better than 10th window but thats hardly a compliment, but i agree with xlanted when he says or implies that massive attack lost its soul when the hip hop and soul of mushroom left the building. still though that said they remain a seminal part of british culture and music. enjoying the album but inb a diff way to blue lines and protection.

Finally picked this up today and I really like it. It's not a truly seminal piece of work like their first three albums were, and they've clearly been heavily influenced by the likes of Various Production and Thom Yorke's solo stuff rather than crafting a truly unique sound. Nonetheless it's a welcome return to form and something that I will be listening to a lot over the next few months.

i hope for the future a few b side tracks + some dusbstep & electric remixs (no dance remixes) and maybe some exotic versions of heligoland tarcks by artist like c2, shed, morgan geist, four tet, villalobos, soundstream...
