| #8 / Tue, 08 Dec 09 14:32 Last year's installment was great with all the debuts. Kind of wish there more debuts on board this time, but the Bvdub kindness will make for great contributions! He's got almost a full third of the time limits of the CD! That's awesome.

 | RA Review If last year's edition of Kompakt's annual Pop Ambient series found the label swapping out many of the names that had helped them build the popular brand for newbies like Sylvain Chaveau, Tim Hecker and the great mopey-drone duo The Fun Years—and in turn presenting arguably the series' most organic..

| #13 / Fri, 22 Jan 10 13:47 Samples of this sound good (though Marsen Jules track is rather boring and sticks to his standard format). Wolfgang's piece is unexpected and lovely!

| #15 / Fri, 22 Jan 10 17:22 its pretty funny how this series is a such a let down each year according to the reviewers. no other label of their status can touch this series. no other label really has a series like this that people look forward to each year, if there is one, please suggest it. pop ambient is a classic annual fixture and the artwork that accompanies it, the future floral patterns are sick. they may not always be filled with magic from top to bottom, but few compilations can set a mood like these can.
i think this is the strongest one in the last few years of the series. i also prefer to see these same producers, of course bvdub and koze were great additions, but the old stalwarts deserve the slots on here and imho, continue to bring it. dig on how they are so exclusive about who can release, few of the newer names on the last couple years, have produced the quality that just about everyone on 2010's have.

| #16 / Fri, 22 Jan 10 18:30 new faces, old faces; experimentalism, comfort zone; it doesn't really matter. every single one of these compilations is pure gold from start to finish.

Agreed. Ultimately, last year's comp was great...breaking a lot of fresh ground for the series. This year, however, feels more like a return to the Pop Ambient sound's roots; and I think it's absolutely fantastic. BVDub, to me, feels like he's really carrying forward the torch of the classic Gas albums...and I'm happy to see Kompakt uncovering artists that are pushing forward the aesthetics of the past.

| #22 / Sun, 24 Jan 10 22:45 upon further listening, this pop ambient is exquisitely paced (perhaps the best of the series in that regard), and all the contributions from the kompakt masters are stunning. "zither und horn" and "bodenweich" and "864M" in particular are incredibly beautiful. for shame, RA, for rating this one so lowly.

Not sure what you're talking about. I reviewed 2009, gave it a 4 and said it was one of the finest installments in the series.
