Rick Wilhite - The Godson / Soul Edge cover
RA Review
Rush Hour continue their work in making some of the finest dance music available to wider audiences here by reissuing two Rick Wilhite EPs originally put on on KDJ in the mid-'90s. It's hard to tell which is better. The most important thing to come of all of this, though, is the reminder of Rick Wil..

Rick is the man, these have been staples in my record bag for years. I remember Malik Pittman dropping the Godson EP at the 3 Chairs DEMF afterparty in 2005, that shit was off the hook. Both of these are essential and unquestionably 5/5!

This release is great for those that weren't into electronic music back in the 90's. The 'old is new' trend of 2009 is just that, the trend of 2009.

Seriously, what kind of comment is that?! Not only is the music on these records the opposite of pretentious, but Rick himself is one of the chillest most down to earth cats in dance music. This is a guy who has been deejaying forever and a day and keeps doing all this shit simply because he loves it. His productions are infrequent, but always of very high quality. Check the new one on Stilove4music so you're not missing out for 10+ years waiting for it to get reissued. Rick is just the man, plain and simple.

fuck that shit.

'Rush Hour continue their work in making some of the finest dance music available to wider audiences.'

why the hell ? it was for the people which are not too lazy to found that shit themselves and now it's for everyone. like, hey idiot, why pay 50 euros for that, buy an amazingly fucky rerelease from us !... thats mad... detroit was resisting from selling out pretty good, but looks like it was in the past now. i hope the new wave from there will be more serious.

congrats: you wrote the most stupid post of the year and you definitely are pretentious too! who would sell 50 euros a record that was sold back then less than 10 if not someone who wants to make money on the back of the artists, tell me?

Also, for your information It's been more than 10 years that Rush Hour provides top quality uncompromised music from around the globe. They are doin it pretty right in my opinion and are helping artists to get the recognition they deserve.

Oh and Why would you keep good music for yourself anyway, are you one of those seflish dumb ass cats that are "so pretentious" that doesn't want to share their fav cuts because they find it themselves (which most likely means having enough chance to have access to a good distribution in their country back then?)? Well, it is pathetic. Instead, you should be happy (as Rick, Moody and all these old producers in the highlights now are ) that they are getting an increasing attention from a generation of dj's that didn't have a chance to get into their music back then! It can do no wrong.

vdq needs a little bit more love in his life...

reissues have not been about people being too lazy. it's about making music available to a new generation who actually want to pay for the music, so that the artist can have his fair share......

In theory, yes. Yet, at least 75% of "reissues" are straight up bootlegs, and the artist will never see any coin for it.
Rush Hour are one of the few guys that do it proper. And this release is essential.. I searched 3 years back then till i had my copies.

Big up for Rushhour for releasing these quality EP's again, had them on my Discogswantlist for quite a while, but i just refuse to pay 150 Euro's for just one EP!

two essential re-releases from (my opinion) the golden age of House Music, the second hand prices of some of this stuff is ridiculous so fair play to rush hour.
i had the soul edge already but missed the godson ep somehow, maybe they could persuade mr dixon to let them re-release the U can dance if U want 2 and some of the earlier stuff of his too.
It's good to see some of the ron trent/chez damier/prescription 12's re-released on many different labels as well, if there's a market for it surely official re-releases make sense, it's only people who've got the originals who seem to have a problem with it (not me I might add) and no one has all of them, surely.

This is ace... dreams of yesterday is the one for me - very similiar sound to what Soundstream are knocking out now.

Are we going to see a digital release for this?

well, this doesn't seem to be a bootleg. so what's the problem?

second point: if you buy a record on discogs for a price of 30, 40, 50 or even more euros, the artist doesn't see one cent of this because it's a second hand record. so the only lucky person in this game is the seller.

records: like them. will buy them.

Are these remastered?
Cool reissues anyway, although in my memory 'The Godson' is more like a 'bootleg/medley/DJ mix' EP in itself (based on Prince tracks among others) than proper DJ material...

Yeah, I really think they are re-mastered. They sound really clean. Much more so then the old records on KDJ.
