RA Feature
Music to tag to, music for weddings, music we call techno: RA's Finn Johannsen plays the Brooklyn DJ/producer some of his favourite records.

nice to see RA focusing on someone who does his own thing and kicks ass completely unrelated to what is "cool" at the moment.

Excellent interview. Great to hear from someone I grew up listening to and raving to back in the 90's! East coast...hell yeah! Great history lesson as well.

Nice one! I had no idea Traversable Wormhole was Adam-X and had an NYC connection... thats pretty crazy... Wish they'd touched upon more stories of the old Storm Raves and such but this was fantastic!

Good to see Adam x and the New York branch of techno/electro/whatever you want to call it getting some attention from RA,i remember purchasing "Power Bass" at Sonic Groove. That store had a top notch collection.

hell no!!
adam x is the wormhole...dude has been holding down music for years, great to see him celebrated here...remember raving like mad to him and his bro 90's into the turn of the century....brings back great memories!
good for you adam, cheers Resident Advisor.

Great feature. Really enjoyed the insight to some of Adam's early experiences in the NY scene.

Adam's Waxtrax Mastermix still sounds relevant today and is a great listen. To me the sound of minimal techno before minimal became what it did.

I had a feeling that TW might have been Adam when Frankie Bones started appearing on Juno's 'Played By' recommendations for the first few releases
.

terrific Playing Favorites. this is the type of information that is so important and interesting to hear from the djs/artists that were influenced by specific records; their backstories on discovery and the meaning they have had on them personally, as well as the historical lineage of a particular scene's development.

Sonic Groove was an excellent store for techno back in the day. i never missed a visit to the shop (in the village and the brooklyn address) when I hit NYC. they turned me onto so many great underground techno releases. Good to see that Adam is carrying on the techno tradition and paving his own path.

I met him back in 2004 at Sonic Groove store, he was a truly nice record store owner which between you and me is not that common, i know a pile of rude assholes, even my MP3's aren't that nasty to me ! but he was cool, stand out and shiny !!

Great article and interview with one of the truly unsung heroes of techno. I grew up on the east coast and learned to define techno from Adam X, Frankie Bones, Joey Beltram, Damon Wild's sets.

I love that he is Traversable Wormhole! That makes how much I like TW really feel rooted in history. I just *knew* someone really special with a deep reference to history was making this records, but still pointing to the future of techno.

Wow, I'm surprised on how eclectic this guy and yes, in his case you can say 'eclectic' without any of the douchey-ness that usually sticks with the word :)

A great story of techno, love his attitude and the insight!

PS. glad to see Monolake getting some credit for playing his part in the last decade of electronic music

I've gathered tracks from this "playing favourites" so anyone interested can listen to. Also two good mixes from Adam X : http://www.groovenvibes.net/2010/01/adam-x-mixes-interview-playlist.html

Super Thanks Groovenvibes.
I was about to try and piece that together myself but looks like you've done all the heavy lifting.
Great interview. I used to shop in Sonic Groove. it breaks my heart that MP3 destroyed the record store. Glad I got to experience it.
Mad scene. Best records from all around the world. Adam always willing to point you in the right direction and Frankie on a call to somewhere in the world, shouting above the music across some bad transatlantic line. If it wasn't on the wall or in the rails there was a chance it was underneath.
And now we have Beatport and Juno.
That's progress?

Good to see Adam talking about that "Industrial Bass" track—it's an absolute killer and I'd urge everyone to check it out. (And please, someone work it into a longer edit—it's only like four minutes long.…) And "Set It Off" was one of the defining tracks of early-'80s NYC club culture.
