Joy Orbison - The Shrew Would Have Cushioned the Blow cover
RA Review
So, Joy Orbison's "Hyph Mngo" was RA's top track of 2009. A "refreshingly obvious choice," we conceded at the time, in that it epitomised the slipperiness of electronic music in a year when genres became increasingly futile proxies to describe what anything actually sounded like. Despite managing th..

Appearing on Will Saul's Aus imprint is perhaps a bit of a curveball after O'Grady's previous work, but the relatively clean production and airiness explored in both of these tracks aren't wholly out of place against the label's usual deep 4/4 output.

The first Aus release by Sideshow was very much in a dubby broken beat vein. That release is what really caught my attention to the label, prior to realizing it was associated with Simple. With this and the Emika release that has the Appleblim/Komonazmuk remix, I'm glad to see the label veer slightly left again from the 4/4 template.

That's how I felt about Hyph Mngo too. Looking forward to giving this a listen. Quality music still thrives beyond the hype.

I agree - pretty much everything he's released has been good, and some has been excellent, but I can't see his productions sounding fresh in a years time. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

There's something moreish about this guys stuff. It puts me in mind of a slo-mo mid-nineties Alex Reece - nothing boundary-pushing yet compulsively listenable all the same.

Loving the A-side. Dreamy stuff. Worked an absolute treat in Scuba's Substance mix.
