Permanent Vacation will release a collection profiling defunct German imprint Brontosaurus on May 31st. The label was originally founded back in 2006 by Thomas Sabrowsky, Lauer and Christian Beißwenger (aka CB Funk, The Citizens Band, and one half of Arto Mwambé). As hinted by the name Brontosaurus, they strived for a somewhat raw and primitive sound—what the press release describes as "proto dance music long after its [emergence]," achieved through a focus on hardware. Ceasing operations in 2010, Brontosaurus could be seen as the unofficial precursor to Live At Robert Johnson, the imprint based inside the Frankfurt club of the same name and featuring many of the same artists. The self-titled compilation will come in two formats: an eight-track double-LP on vinyl, and a digital version containing an extra 16 tunes. It hosts many of Frankfurt's biggest techno and house names, including Lauer, Beißwenger under the Exile Missile alias, and their productions together as Arto Mwambé. Tracklist Vinyl Version A1. The series is a roving one-day event meant to spotlight the UK trio's favourite artists at various locales around the world. The Berlin edition will take place at Spreepark Plänterwald, with a selection of food carts under the banner "A Taste Of Berlin" as part of the festivities in addition to the musical programming. It'll start at 1 PM and go all the way to midnight. Aside from a performance by the trio themselves and a DJ set from percussionist Jamie xx, they'll host fellow Brits Jessie Ware and Mount Kimbie. Italians Do It Better-associated disco group Chromatics will perform, as will UNO NYC-affiliated rapper Mykki Blanco, Innervisions' Dixon, and Kindness. ![]() The second wave of artists has been confirmed for Melt! Festival 2013, taking place from July 19th through 21st. The festival takes over Ferropolis, in Gräfenhainichen just a few hours outside of Berlin, every year. The Knife and James Blake are some of the acts already announced. Modeselektor have curated a stage called Melt!Selektor, which will see a performance by their Moderat project with Apparat, while Ellen Allien will hold a Bpitch Control showcase. The latest group of names added to the lineup encompasses both dance and indie rock. LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and Simian Mobile Disco will DJ, while trip-hop legend Tricky will perform a set based on his new False Idols album. Aerea Negrot will join the Bpitch Control crew, Siriusmo will play Melt!Selektor, and Anja Schneider, Benjamin Damage, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Henning Baer are among the other artists included in the announcement. ![]() Berlin Atonal Festival has announced the first names for its 2013 program, which runs from July 25th through 31st.
The festival got its start in the early 1980s as a showcase for some of that era's most experimental acts. Einstürzende Neubauten and Sprung Aus Den Wolken were some of their early bookings, and the event positioned itself as a space where attendees had "the freedom to form thoughts and judgments without slipping into the shitty, prefabricated system set up by idiots," as an early press release put it. This year's edition, titled "Forming Space," draws on the same ethos that drove those early festivals. Only four acts have been announced for 2013, but they give an idea of where the organizers are taking things. Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald will perform the European debut of their recent Borderland collaboration. Trumpeter and electronic composer Jon Hassell will play with his string quartet. Raime and Voices From The Lake are also on the lineup, and both groups will play special audiovisual sets. Many more artists are set to be announced in the coming weeks, with readings, seminars, exhibitions and installations complementing this music. Kraftwerk Berlin, an abandoned power plant that the promoters describe as a "multi-story, multi-roomed industrial maze," will serve as the festival's home base. ![]() Felix K will release his debut album, Flowers Of Destruction, this weekend.
The Berlin-based artist first started out DJing drum & bass back in the mid-'90s. These days, he's become known for his dark, experimental productions which merge together drum & bass, techno and ambient sounds, and which frequently appear only on limited-edition wax. Flowers Of Destruction sees him further expanding his wide-ranging style across fifteen tracks, each named according to its numerical order—except for the album closer, "Flower Of Hope." It'll first be made available on Hidden Hawaii LTD (an offshoot of the Hidden Hawaii label family that Felix K co-runs) as a limited 3xLP pack of grey vinyl, with a digital version to be released later. Berlin fans can catch Felix K in action this Saturday night at Berghain, where his set will also serve as an "unofficial release party" for Flowers Of Destruction. Tracklist A1 Flower Of Destruction 1 A2 Flower Of Destruction 2 A3 Flower Of Destruction 3 B1 Flower Of Destruction 4 B2 Flower Of Destruction 5 C1 Flower Of Destruction 6 C2 Flower Of Destruction 7 D1 Flower Of Destruction 8 D2 Flower Of Destruction 9 E1 Flower Of Destruction 10 E2 Flower Of Destruction 11 E3 Flower Of Destruction 12 F1 Flower Of Destruction 13 F2 Flower Of Destruction 14 F3 Flower Of Hope Hidden Hawaii LTD will release Flowers Of Destruction on May 4th, 2013. Nachtdigital will stage its 16th edition at the Bungalowdorf Olganitz in Cavertitz, Germany, this August.
The open-air party, which runs from Saturday afternoon through Monday, has long been a hot ticket, and this year's edition sold out long before any artists had been announced. Given the festival's reputation for strong lineups, it's not surprising folks would jump on board early, and this year's roster isn't likely to disappoint. Michael Mayer, Gerd Janson, Âme and Barnt are among those representing Germany. In terms of internationals, Nachtdigital has booked the likes of Deadbeat, Xosar, Blawan and Blondes. The festival will also showcase the cult Giegling label this year, with roster regulars Konstantin, Ateq and Kettenkarussell among those tapped to play. ![]() Berlin label Vakant will release a compilation next month. Helmed by brothers Dario and Marco Zenker, Ilian Tape has been in operation since 2007, releasing records from a small cast of contributors that includes Jichael Mackson, Imugem Orihasam and the founders themselves. Murky house and techno has been the label's focal point for the past few years, and this has been reflected in the Zenker Brothers' club appearances. Saturday's event will see Copenhagen's Kenneth Christiansen touch down at Kong for an Ilian Tape Vs. Echochord night, while Levon Vincent will headline the label's May party at Rote Sonne. Ilian Tape will return to Rote Sonne in August to celebrate its six birthday with the help of UK techno veteran Surgeon. ![]() Berlin's Killekill crew are kicking off their new Krake imprint with a compilation called Krake 001. It marks his full-length debut on the acclaimed German label Raster-Noton, which put out his Rn-Rhythm-Variations EP back in 2009. A follow-up to that record, RV8 sees Takamasa continuing to refine his playfully funky, glitch-laden style across eight sequentially named tracks.
