The latest edition of Rokolectiv, an electronic music and arts festival, will run in Bucharest from April 17th through 21st.
The festival has become a yearly springtime fixture in the Romanian capital, with the National Museum of Contemporary Arts serving as its home base. As usual, Rokolectiv showcases electronic artists from across the stylistic spectrum, with an emphasis on acts who pair well with the festival's museum backdrop. Nonplace boss Burnt Friedman and frequent collaborator Jaki Liebezeit will head up the opening night showcase at Modern, along with Kuedo featuring MFO and Romanian artist Coughly. John Talabot is at the top of the bill for the next two days, with Tri Angle artists Holy Other and Evian Christ, New York's MikeQ, Sinjin Hawke and more on the bill. The festival finishes up with an afterparty at Modern, which kicks off at 6:00AM on the Sunday. The lineup for the afterparty is yet to be confirmed.

Premiesku, a collaborative project by Livio & Roby and George G., will release its first album in September on Desolat.8 Comments
All three artists hail from Bucharest, the Romanian capital and home to what is quietly one of Europe's most respected house and techno scenes. They've been making music together as Premiesku (Romanian for "premiere") for the past year or so, but have been collaborating in general for longer than that, releasing a three-part EP series on Cécille Numbers in 2009 as Livio & Roby vs George G. 2012 has proven to be a milestone year for the project, with the trio's all-analog live set making the rounds in Ibiza this summer and set to debut in the UK next month. Entitled Indirect, their first full-length brings together eight extended cuts of analog house and techno. It will be available digitally and on CD.
01. Ceva care se multiplica
02. Discurs pe fundal
03. E codat
05. mod indirect
06. Mecanism LRG3000
Desolat will release Indirect on September 21st, 2012.

Sunwaves 12 will take place on Saturday 18th August in Navodari, on Romania's Black Sea coast.1 Comment
The festival had been taking place twice annually—May and August—in Mamaia since 2007, until last year's August edition of Sunwaves was moved 5km up the road to Navodari. This will again be the spot for the next edition of Sunwaves on August 18th, a single night (and some of the next day) affair that will spread itself across several seaside tents and stages. As is always the case with Sunwaves, a strong contingent of Romanian DJs will be showing their wares. Two of the country's most famed electronic music exports, Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu are the most obvious examples, although names like Praslea, Kozo, Cezar and Priku have been showing up with increasing frequency on international bills.
Richie Hawtin and John Digweed are two of the night's main international guests. Terry Lee Brown Jr. and The Timewriter will represent veteran German imprint Plastic City, while Fumiya Tanaka, Phil Weeks, Hobo, Cabanne and jozif represent a flavour of the other internationals on offer.
Tickets to Sunwaves 12 are available to purchase via RA Tickets.

The 2012 edition of Rokolectiv Festival will take place from April 19th through the 22nd in Romania.
Every year the arts and music festival brings a gaggle of DJs and live acts to the National Museum Of Contemporary Arts in Bucharest. The bill for 2012 is as diverse as ever. It begins with a free event featuring spaced-out electronic pop artist Maria Minerva, of LA's 100% Silk label. Dixon is likely to provide the festival's most straight up dose of club music, and he'll be headlining on Friday. Saturday's lineup presents an alternative vision of house music, with Comeme founder Matias Aguayo and Portland duo The Miracles Club. Things wrap up on Sunday with Ninja Tuna artist Emika, Koreless and Chicago footwork innovators DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn.

Romanian promoters Sunwaves, The Mission and La Mania have all announced their lineups for this year's May Day celebrations.
As testament to the growing popularity of Romania's Black Sea coast as an international clubbing destination, the list of artists appearing across the four-day May Day celebrations reads like an almost comprehensive round-up of the scene's biggest names. The coastal resort of Mamaia, and more specifically its Nord Beach, is where the thousands flock to each May 1st; this year those in attendance will be presented with the widest selection of events and artists in the gathering's history.
First up is Sunwaves, who will roll out over April 29th - 30th with their ninth edition of the festival. At the summit of their bill are perennial favourites Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos, who will be joined by Marco Carola, Lee Burridge, Thomas Melchior, Valentino Kanzyani, Masomenos and Audiofly. In terms of local names, Arpiar trio Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu and Raresh will all appear in addition to Cezar, Praslea, Kozo and Dan Andrei.
The Bucharest-based Mission have teamed up InDeep&Dance, meanwhile, for a party under the name Pirates of 1st of May. Topping their lineup is Cocoon ringleader Sven Vath, who will be joined by a vast selection of European, US and Romanian DJs that includes Steve Lawler, Tania Vulcano, Kerri Chandler, Art Department, Guy Gerber, Onur Özer, Brothers' Vibe, Dyed Soundorom, Mihai Popoviciu and Ali Nasser.
Mamia venue La Mania will be providing yet more options for those in town, with their club/beach offering over three consecutive days and nights. Lee Foss and Mike Huckaby will both be appearing at a warm-up party on Thursday 28th April; the next night Sasha, Danny Howells and Nima Gorji man the decks in the club's main room, with all four members of Visionquest—Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson—taking care of the terrace; and closing out the main room on Saturday April 30th is Luciano alongside Reboot, Marc Antona and Maayan Nidam, with DJ Sneak on the terrace's decks. All dates at La Mania will be followed by an afterparty on the beach featuring artists from the previous night's party.

Rokolectiv has announced the music portion of its multi-disciplinary event, which will run between the 14th and 17th of April.
German producer Isolee is set to appear on the first day of the festival, accompanied by Austrian trio Elektro Guzzi, who as usual will be playing techno with the traditional rock arrangement of bass, drums and guitar. Also billed are Bucharest local and DC-10 resident Petre Inspirescu, his compatriot Montgomery Clunk, Warp Records signing Jimmy Edgar, jozif of Wolf + Lamb fame, and Zombie Zombie with a John Carpenter-inspired show.
Outside of the more traditional 4/4 styles, Spanish singer Take Hyperpotamus will be performing a capella with four microphones and a loop station pedal, and San Francisco "beat maker" Salva will make his European live debut. As is customary with Rokolectiv, theatre performances, art installations and film screenings will also be in the offering.

DJ Qu, Livio & Roby, Sasha and arpiar are all scheduled to play Black Coast nightspot La Mania before its season close on August 28th.
This Saturday, July 17th will see Ramon Lisandro Quezada, better known by his stage name DJ Qu, return to La Mania after last appearing at the club on key clubbing date May 1st. Qu's deeply hypnotic house vibes evidently went across well on his last visit, and his sound—which has its roots in East Coast imprints such as Underground Quality, Deconstruct Music and of course his own Strength Music—will be complemented on the night by the equally subterranean style of Petre Inspirescu.
Meanwhile, the upcoming La Mania schedule sees performances from Sasha (July 31st), DJ W!ld (August 7th) and Livio & Roby (August 21st), before the 2010 season is brought to a rousing finale on August 28th. All three arpiar members—Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Raresh—will join forces for one of their all night house music throw downs.

Simian Mobile Disco and Tiga will top the bill for The Mission's latest event at the massive Arenele Romane.2 Comments
If you're attempting to fill a 7,000 person capacity venue, it would be advisable to think big when booking acts. Having put on parties at Arenele Romane for more than six years, Bucharest promotion force The Mission are well versed in pulling in the necessary global names to the get the party started; and come July 2nd it'll be the turn of UK duo Simian Mobile Disco to play a starring role. James Ford and James Shaw's maximal club sound will be complemented by the tones of Turbo boss Tiga, while another North American in the form of Dubfire also plays. The trio comprised of Modeselektor and Apparat will add to the live ranks with their stationary stage show as Moderat, and local act The Model picks up the support slot.

The May edition of Sunwaves festival will take place this year between April 30th and May 2nd.17 Comments
The Romanian coastal town of Mamaia has been the home of the bi-annual Sunwaves festival since its maiden event back in 2007. Running in two differing formats over its May and August legs, the spring event is held in two arenas spread over three days, while the late summer bash takes place on a single night across roughly five stages.
Ricardo Villalobos will make his third Sunwaves appearance, with a headlining slot on the Friday night that will undoubtedly plow headlong into the next morning—as is customary for the night's key performer. The Chilean producer will be joined by Mamaia mainstay Lee Burridge, while newly announced DC-10 residents Zip and Seth Troxler will both spin at Sunwaves for the second time. Saturday's party meanwhile, feels much more geared up towards local talent as all three RPR members (Raresh, Petre Inspirescu and Rhadoo) perform in addition to Marco Carola and Audiofly.
And although details of their performance days is unclear, M.A.N.D.Y., Cassy, Tobias Freund, Troy Pierce and Bill Patrick are also set to spin, with a raft of local talent including Kozo, Praslea, El Cezere, Dan Andrei and Ali Nasser all providing support.

Romania's Rokolectiv festival will return this year with its most house-centric line-up so far.
Rokolectiv takes place in Bucharest over the course of April 22-25th, and is generally focused on combining electronic music with visual arts, bringing a raft of top talent over to the Romanian capital for the occasion. Whereas last year's Rokolectiv had a mix of dubstep, techno, electronic disco and experimental music, this year's event seems slightly more streamlined into the house side of things, with Move Dset to play both a live and DJ set at the festival's Friday night party at The Ark. RA favourite and receiver of our top album of '09 accolade, Terre Thaemlitz AKA DJ Sprinkles will also spin his idiosyncratic deep house style on the night—as well as giving one of his audio/visual lectures at another event—with Amsterdam-based organic house duo Juju & Jordash rounding off the evening's dance floor action.
If that isn't enough house for you, the Saturday will be sure to satisfy, with FXHE boss Omar-S set to bring his raw and gritty vibe over from Detroit. Syncom Data offer some of their unhinged dubby techno, while fellow Dutchman Legowelt opens up proceedings with his afrobeat-infused deep house project, Nacho Patrol. Stuttgart's Danilo Plessow will also be on hand to demonstrate why his Motor City Drum Ensemble material is proving so popular with house fans across the globe at the moment.
Details of the daytime events have yet to be announced, but we can also confirm that both Dan Deacon and Turzi will both play at The Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sunday, complete with a performance from Nabaz'mob, which is being intriguingly billed as an "opera for 100 smart rabbits."
